KOTOR is a game that I've played roughly about 5 times, but I've never actually completed it. Currently, I'm on a playthrough on the Xbox and it's the furthest I've ever gotten into the story of the game, by far.
The reason why I have had to keep restarting it is because my Steam Cloud saves weren't set up, so every time I deleted the game or changed PCs I'd have to restart it when I felt in the mood for it.
The Gameplay
It is fairly clunky and very dated, but none of that takes away from the charm of this game. Usually, watching your character carry out auto-attacks, constantly missing, or landing the odd low-score attack would be frustrating, but with this, I don't really mind it. Also, the special moves, and being able to line a few up is really handy, and breaks up some of the repetition.
One thing that is kind of annoying is the slow walking speeds, but even that isn't too bad, and I don't think it would be enough to turn anyone away from a game like this.
I love Star Wars, and being able to utilize your ship, the Ebon Hawk, to traverse the galaxy is really good, it's also cool to be able to visit iconic locations from the series, such as Tatooine, Dantooine (Which was only mentioned in the first film) and Kashyyyk, is really cool.
Learning some facts about each planet, each populous, and even some of the history is also a really cool fact.
Lore and Story
The game takes place thousands of years in the past, so being able to get so far from anything known in the original trilogy is a breath of fresh air. The writers done a great job too of making it interesting and showing that there is so much to learn, see and do regardless of the familiar faces and characters that we're used to.
What's funny is that the galaxy hasn't changed much in a long period. It's as if Star Wars in general reached a level of futuristic weaponry, space travel, and robotics, only to stop completely then and never vie to discover more or go further down the line of science.
The only thing that seems to have changed slightly is that ships became sleeker looking, as did the droids.
There is a lot to learn about each world and race. One that I found interesting is that the Jawas actually stole and rebuilt old Czerka (a major galaxy-spanning corporation) vehicles to use as mobile townships to help them get around while also offering them protection from sand people and other dangerous creatures.
Also, I found one of the character's stories interesting, one of the Wookies was exiled from his home in Kashyyyk because he used his claw while in a fight with another Wookie. They use the term "madclaw" to describe someone who does that as a way to cast them away.
Currently, the Ebon Hawk has been captured by a ship known as the Leviathan, and now imprisoned we're trying to escape before Darth Malak - the main antagonist gets to us.
