Lord of The Rings: Adventure Book Game

Me and Aimee bought this game recently. It was a toss up between this and a murder mystery board game - similar to one we played recently and really enjoyed - in the end though, we went with this one because it seemed kind of DnD-ish, also we're both LOTRs fans, so it seemed like the best choice.

Here's the front of the box, and based solely on the artwork, it looks cool.

This was what caught our eyes while in the shop and based on what it seems to be, it's a fairly cool game that can be played 1-4 players, which is interesting.

Being able to play a table-top game with just 1 player is deadly, especially if other players could potentially join into a session as it goes along.

Here are the contents of the box.

We had to go through the rules a few times before making sense of it, but just decided to jump right into a session just to get the context of the game so reading the rules seems a bit easier.

Here's the map.

Each game sees the player(s) completing a series of mission cards to find their way to the end of the game, which no doubt ends at mt. Doom.

Here are the player pieces.

I though it was weird that there were 7 pieces, yet only 4 players, but another cool thing about this game is that each player character shows up at different times throughout the game. So each player will rotate through characters based on the area they find themselves.

We enjoyed the first session, but it was more of a practice run just to get used to the game itself so we're going back to it now and trying it again with more of an idea how to play it.

After Kaleb went to bed we cracked this out, made a plate of cheese and crackers, and opened a few beers. It's basically the first Saturday night we've had together in a while, and it has been a lot of fun.

It looks like an interesting concept in a popular setting/story. I'm sure at max player capacity it can get quite intricate. The fact that players eventually meet up sounds like the ultimate reward after struggling for so long by themselves, in a sense.

I am astounded by the variety of games that are tied to popular titles but aren't well known... Well at least to me!
