Hello and Welcome back to my blog!
In the last post on this Dredge series, I talked about making a lot of progress. I got rich by catching cabs near the mangrove and finding the missing pieces of raw materials to upgrade my hull to Tier 4, thereby getting 15 extra storage spaces for my cargo.
This will allow me to navigate freely and focus more on the quests I have collected from everywhere.
I had my heavy-duty trawl net equipped, and I was able to see the results, too. Catching fish in the net while just drifting over the sea is surely an easy way to fish. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of fish to be caught in these waters, and each day, I catch many new ones. I loved the name Anchovy King; that picture doesn't match the word at all.
I went to the Marrows and did another small upgrade: configuring 2 cargo spaces to also hold rods. I didn't need it but it was good to have more rods. I cannot install all the types of rods at the same time and have to strategically replace one over the other depending on where I am fishing.
The last upgrade left was adding 4 more cargo spaces to my vessel. I know I said that I could focus more on exploring the story but went back to upgrading again. I don't know why but I love to have the best setup as quickly as I can. Progression in this game feels so good that each one of these little upgrades is worth every bit of work.
Just around the sides of the main island, I saw a strange rock which wasn't there. It had a curved fish symbol and some empty slots. So the sea wants some offering? Fine, I will do it.
I went to fish 'curved' fish. I fished some Cod and Eel both looked curvy and were in the shallow waters nearby.
My stupid brain tried to put the Eel thinking its picture are curved but I was confused when it didn't work and then I left this place to look for another curved fish that I saw somewhere else. I didn't try hard enough to orient them and fit only the Cod there. So, embarrassing when those Cods fit in it nicely.
My reward was a coastal/shallow rod that had a few per cent better fishing speed. It wasn't worth it. The 1.5% aberration bonus was too little for my liking too. But I had 2 extra rod spaces that I got recently and I just installed it. One of the perks of having these upgrades, I guess.
I wanted to catch new fish that I had not caught. There are many nocturnal fish that are only active at night and I haven't caught a lot of them yet.
I found a big ray-looking fish called Pale Skate. That was only found in the Volcanic zone and believed to use hydrothermal vents as incubators for its egg cases. Damn, the things you learn by playing games.
I was going from one island to the next in search of artefacts and other mysterious things like that curved fish stone puzzle. I found a lot of wreckage, raw materials and some abandoned campsites.
One of the wreckage had a box full of goodies. A bag of gold coins, research parts and raw materials. What else can you wish for?
A lot of structures were abandoned and in ruins. I was exploring around the temple in the northeastern part of the map.
The volcanic region looks so cool, especially when you can see the cracks in the sea bed. I wonder where these cracks come from.
I started following them to find out the source of these cracks but couldn't follow them because of some scary fish that wanted to chew on my boat and sink it.
Thanks to the 'haste' ability I could escape from these devils or I would have been their dinner.
Now I understand why this place was called the Devil's Spine. xD
Near one of the islands laid ruins of what looked like a big structure with walls and arches. Like a big fort or an ancient temple. Sadly, it emerged in the water and some of the openings were guarded by those devil fish.
I had to bait them out away from here and quickly go back to get the treasure from there. There was another Rock Slab with an engraving of some kind of crab. I have not done any crab fishing here so I had never seen these before. But maybe they are found nearby just like the other puzzle.
I navigated this place carefully narrowly escaping the dangerous fish and collecting whatever artefacts I could find there. It had a lot of things ranging from gold coins to opal rings.
I harboured my vessel in the Charred Pontoon, operated by the travelling merchant. This is the place where I will think about what should I do next.
