Hello, gamers. Welcome back to my blog.
In my previous post on theHunter: Call of the Wild, I shared my first thoughts of Medved-Taiga Hunting reserve and hunted a few Moose but this time around it was a more exciting session with hunting different predators and getting hunted by some. xD
I still had to go to an outpost to unlock the quick travel facilities and stores. I got sidetracked in the last session and went on exploring the map and hunting and this time was no different. As soon as I joined I got distracted by reindeer calls and I went out to look for more clues.
After walking for a few minutes I heard some warning calls from Moose so I took out my Moose caller and started calling them. It was a forested area so the visibility was not good and they could just be on the other side of a tree and get spooked if I tried to walk and make even the faintest of sounds.
I got impatient and started walking which spooked a Brown bear. I had no idea I was so close to a Bear. Good thing he tried to flee the area rather than attacking me.
He ran over a frozen lake which gave me a good shot so I took a couple of shots from my 7mm rifle and at least one of them hit a vital organ I saw its health dropping rapidly and later saw it die on the sides of the lake inside the long reeds that were growing there.
I crossed the lake to fetch and harvest my kill. I was excited to hunt my first Brown bear, they are the biggest predators here on this map.
As soon as I entered those long grasses to harvest my kill, I heard some growls and my dog also got nervous and started barking as if he was trying to alert me of the incoming danger. I got out of the reeds to see an aggressive wolf staring at me and about to attack me.
I thought he was alone and shot it with my shotgun which was a perfect heart shot too! He died right there. I went and tried to pick it up to claim my rewards and see what its stats look like.
I was just seeing the stats and saw a gold medal, but my happiness was quickly ruined as I heard more growls. I quickly harvested it but as I got out from the harvest screen this is what I saw!!
Five wolves are about to attack me at the same time... I panicked so hard and tried to run even after having a shotgun in my hand. But they already started attacking me and killed me in an instant. I had no chance... where were they hiding?? How did they all come at the same time!?
I was attacked by many animals in the game, I have survived Cape Buffalo attacks, and attacks from Bears and Crocodiles but Wolves surprised me so much. Now I fear them on this map. Getting attacked by one or two at the same time is still defendable but getting attacked by 6-7 at the same time is just too scary. They are quick and surround you, they think like a single unit and I was surprised to see how well the game implemented this hunting behaviour.
Anyway, I died and got respawned back to where I started and had to come all the way again to the lake to harvest my Brown Bear. I went back and picked it up.
He was not one of the bigger ones but still weighed over 320 Kg and his fur makes him look even bigger. This was my first Brown Bear harvest on this map and it was a silver trophy.
I was alert this time around and was listening for any growls or movements in the grasses. They seemed to have fled from the area after killing me.
I could still see their footprints and tried to follow them to take my revenge. Those led me into the forest where I used some callers to call them but it didn't work.
On this long search to find my killers I got distracted by a fine-looking reindeer but it quickly disappeared into the thick forest and I moved on thinking it was not my day...lol
I saw some strange equipment on some of the lakes, they must be some scientific instruments used to collect data on weather and wild animals. I was called here to help with that too.
And look at what I saw, a Eurasian Lynx... they are unique to this map and are medium-sized cats that can take down prey much bigger than them.
I was told by the warden of the reserve that they are difficult to spot. So, I guess I was lucky and saw one coming towards me.
I took the shot and killed it. They are beautifully camouflaged and can be difficult to spot and that's one of the reasons they are the apex predators in this part of the world.
I used over powered weapon on this one, they are just class 3 animals and I used 7mm that covers from class 4 to class 9 animals. And I missed the vital organs too. Both of these made me lose the silver trophy as I failed 2 harvest checks from 4.
That was enough of me procrastinating; it was now time to go and unlock that outpost. I started walking towards it which was not too far from me. This was also part of the main campaign mission and will give more XP and cash if I do it.
I reached the place, it was a beautiful outpost in the middle of a forest. There was a unique structure too. I don't know what I was looking at, a birdhouse? a store room for food and other things to keep away from Bears?
Finally, I arrived after getting distracted by all sorts of animals on my way. I love getting lost in the wilderness here, it is so much more fun to just go anywhere and follow what you find. There are always surprises waiting for you in this game!
This was an exciting hunting session, to say the least, hunted a Brown Bear, killed a Grey Wolf and got hunted by its friends right after. And finished up by hunting another rare predator, the Eurasian Lynx. What an eventful day!
Thanks for reading...
Until next hunt...
