Let's Play Dave the Diver - Episode 3: Encounters with the Shark!

in #hive-1402173 days ago

Hello and Welcome back to my blog!

We are playing as Dave, a diver who spends his day diving in the mysterious and ever-changing terrain of the Blue Hole, and managing a sushi restaurant in the evening. We made some good progress in the last couple of days and managed to more than double our sales. All because of the new recipes that are a great hit.

We made a Cooksta account for our restaurant and are starting to get some likes.

Now, we upgraded our Old Harpoon Gun with the Steel one which deals a lot more damage and should be able to catch bigger fish for our sushis. Also, we need to impress a VIP guest and catch a shark to make a dish out of it.

This was my second encounter but the game wasn't kind enough to me. Even though I had a basic rifle with 5 bullets, it didn't take long for this hungry shark to make a dish out of poor Dave.

But the game still allows you to choose one of the items to bring back to the surface if you run out of oxygen.

I chose the biggest fish I caught in this run. No worries, we still had one more dive left for the day.

We were approached by a man in a funny fishboat. It was Sato, who told us about a new app on our phone: Marinca. It is a kind of an encyclopedia with cards of each species listed. They are locked until you catch them. Once you catch a fish, its card gets unlocked. That's all, not useful other than looking up information about a specific fish that you once caught and forgetting its location or what it looks like.

I don't see myself using it a lot unless there are quests to get specific fish.

Anyway, I went down to take revenge on this evil shark. This time I was more careful and the fight was epic. There are some quick time events which can help you dodge a powerful attack from the shark. I was lucky with those in this run.

It was a quick encounter too and my bag got filled with the heavy shark meat and its head, I was tasked to get, over the capacity so I had to escape through the escape pod.

In the evening Bancho, the chef, made a dish out of this whitetail shark for our VIP guest, Yoshie. It was a whole roasted head and Yoshie didn't like the looks.

She was disgusted by the looks but loved the taste. It triggered a small cutscene. I love the animations, they are heavily inspired by anime.

Another mission was completed successfully. She was impressed and wanted to help us. She is a recruiter and will be helping us recruit more people to work in this restaurant.

We just had to put out a flyer ad and wait for the next day for the applicants to respond.

Just one shark was enough for a few dishes and other normal guests wanted them too. We made a good sale that night gained enough followers on our Cooksta account and got to the Bronze rank. This unlocked 4 new recipes with good sell price. Not just recipes, we also got one extra menu slot, one kitchen staff slot and some interior.

The amount of money we made today dwarfed the other three days by a lot. The whole-roasted shark head is an expensive dish and gave us a lot of money.

The next day it was raining heavily and Ellie came to meet us at our boat. She needed some more help. Last time we ran an errand for her by fetching some starfish from the ocean. This time she wanted us to get her some shells.

We checked out the Cooksta app to read what people are saying about us. Then opened the Marinca app to look at all the fish I encountered. I had 40% of the cards for Shallow water.

As soon as I dived, there was the dolphin again who looked like wanting help from me. Its friend, the pink dolphin, was caught in a net and was being dragged up in the pirate ship. I had to use the knife to cut the rope and save it.

Missed it on the first try but did it easily on the second go. Both of them were happy to be united again and they gave me a gold bar. How the hell are these dolphins that rich? No wonder the pirates are after them xD. I am not complaining though. Perfect for me to get more upgrades going.

I was looking for those shells and also catching fish. In a short time, my bag was full again. I really need to get more storage in my bag. It took a long time to find all the shells but I did it. The oxygen supplies are helping a lot to stay longer.

Ellie was happy to get these back. This unlocked yet another app called the Ecowatcher. My phone is starting to fill with all the icons of these apps. This app just shows missions which involve collecting stuff from the ocean for research purposes.

I am not gonna focus on them but I suppose these will be done passively as I progress in the game and make more dives. Most of these collectable items are light too so as I upgrade my storage it will get easier.

Until next time...

I didn't understand what this game was about even though I had commented on your previous content about it. But now I know a little bit what it's about, you have your own restaurant and you do the fishing yourself. That's great, but going underwater to hunt a shark yourself is something I've only seen in video games, maybe in real life it will happen but surely it must be scary.

While I was reading for a moment I thought the VIP client was going to end up telling you that she didn't like the shark head dish she was served, at least the only thing she disliked was the appearance of the dish.

Something that also caused me a bit of humor was when you rescued the dolphin, how could she possibly give you a gold bar. I guess rescuing more specimens like this one will surely raise enough funds to be able to advance a little faster in the game.

Nice to stop by and read you.

At least the owner of the restaurant won't do that in real life and we can't compare real life logic with game logic, dude.

Maybe the translator failed and what I meant was not understood. Obviously that will never happen in real life, at least not the owner, but surely experienced fishermen do that kind of work, catching sharks and selling them in restaurants. The city where I live is coastal and you usually see that in the popular places where seafood is sold.

So you have are playing this game continually, that's great. Game seems to have a nice plot

I must launch a shark from the hungry shark, I bet you won't be able to fight them, lol. They got to launch scientific sharks. Haha
