Taunt and Heal featuring Mycelic Slipspawn!

Hello everyone, Lester here and it's time again for Splinterlands Share Your Battle Weekly Challenge! How's your recent battles?Good?Bad?Meh? While you're not sure yet on what is your next strategy, check out my entry to SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! MYCELIC SLIPSPAWN.

For this post, I will share two of my battles with Mycelic Slipspawn. One with Mycelic Slipspawn in the first position and one with Mycelic Slipspawn in the last position.

THEME: MYCELIC SLIPSPAWN
Edition: CHAOS LEGION
Rarity: RARE
Element: EARTH
Attack: MAGIC
Abilities: TAUNT AT LVL 1, FORCEFIELD AT LVL 4, SLOW AT LVL 8

Mycelic Slipspawn was first found on the edges of the swamps of Praetoria, in areas where the fetid waters meet with the forests and jungles. It is highly toxic and grows to a substantial size. Death is uncommon for those who touch its fibrous body however, the side effects of its toxins can cause a long list of illnesses and disease, leaving its victims severely debilitated.

When the chaos portal opened and the creeping plague infected the land, the Slipspawn struggled to endure, being completely intolerant to the deadly pandemic. But then Queen Mycelia came, she touched the Slipspawn as she passed it by and it drank from her power, an enduring energy that ran deep and defiantly cast the pestilence of the chaos taint aside. The Slipspawn pulled its roots free from the ground and eagerly danced across the leafy forest floor after her, desperate to follow its saviour and stand by her in the times to come...(MYCELIC SLIPSPAWN Lore).

Taunting at First Position

image.png

In this battle, I used a Level 2 Mycelic Slipspawn and put it in the first position to act as a tank and to taunt all damage from the enemy. In this configuration, all attacks will be directed to Mycelic Slipspawn starting from the enemy's first position to last position, except if the enemy has a card with Scattershot. Since Mycelic Slipspawn is a magic attack card, I used Obsidian to summon it and to give it a +1 Magic Attack. I also used Goblin Psychic with its Tank Heal to heal damage taken by Mycelic Slipspawn. For this line up, my key cards are Obsidian as summoner, Mycelic Slipspawn as tank and Goblin Psychic as support with heal. Other unused mana will be used to summon other cards with a priority of magic attack. The mana cap of this battle is 21 and after summoning Obsidian, Mycelic Slipspawn and Goblin Psychic, remaining mana were used to summon Khmer Princess and Fungus Fiend.

In round 1, Mycelic Slipspawn received 7 damage from the enemy and was left with 4 HP. The enemy also used Magic Attack line up and was able to inflict all damage to Mycelic Slipspawn.

image.png

In the same round, Mycelic Slipspawn received +3 HP from Goblin Psychic and proceeded to the next round with its HP higher than the HP of the enemy's tank.

In round 2, my Mycelic Slipspawn defeated the enemy's Mycelic Slipspawn. With the tank gone on the enemy side, my line up won the battle with Mycelic Slipspawn's Taunt and Goblin Psychic's Tank Heal. Here is the full replay in Splinterlands.
Taunting at Last Position

image.png

In this battle, I put Mycelic Slipspawn in the last position instead of putting it in the first position which I think is the usual. And since one of the rulesets is Odd Ones Out, I cannot use Goblin Psychic. Good thing is I have another card that has Heal ability, Spirit Hoarder with its Triage ability that heals back-line monster that has taken the most damage. In this configuration, enemy monster will deal damage to my monster in the first position and the rest will deal damage to Mycelic Slipspawn. So I have to choose a card fitting to tank damage upfront. The key cards in this battle are Obsidian as summoner, Mycelic Slipspawn with its Taunt ability, Spirit Hoarder with its Triage ability and Pelacor Mercenary as my tank in first position. For the remaining mana, I used them in summoning magic attack monsters.

Pelacor Mercenary received damage from Disintegrator only while other enemy monsters directed their attack to Mycelic Slipspawn. Spirit Hoarder healed Mycelic Slipspawn in the middle of the fight while my other monsters attacked the enemy.

And at the end of the round, my Mycelic Slipspawn left with 4 HP while the enemy's Mycelic Slipspawn was defeated. Good thing is that I didn't put my Mycelic Slipspawn in the middle of my line up because the enemy has a monster with Blast ability.

With the enemy tank defeated, succeeding rounds were in favor of me. And this configuration of Spirit Hoarder and Mycelic Slipspawn positioned at the back led me to victory. Here is the full replay in Splinterlands.

First or Last?
One of the things that I like about Mycelic Slipspawn is aside from its Taunt ability, it has magic attack which it can attack anywhere unlike other tanks with melee or ranged attack. Both Spirit Hoarder and Goblin Psychic are in perfect synergy with Mycelic Slipspawn depending on the situation. If I can use a good tank then I can put Mycelic Slipspawn in the last position. If the ruleset forbids melees, I might use both Spirit Hoarder and Goblin Psychic and put a monster in the first position with good HP or has high speed to dodge attacks from enemy's first position monster.
