I'm going to be honest, I miss Guitar Hero. That franchise that Activision overexploited more than 10 years ago and now there are not even the ashes of its legacy, a series of excellent rhythm games, with a selection of songs that could be better or worse depending on the game, but overall it was very good, personally I really like GH3 and Warriors of Rock, they are the ones I have played the most by far and I would definitely love to see a Guitar Hero made with current standards, but the truth is that we could already have one in progress, one that is strengthened with each passing week.

If the title is not clear enough, I'm talking about Fortnite Festival, that game mode that was added to Fortnite along with Chapter 5, and that started as something curious that after a few months is consolidating, but still needs work.

I haven't talked about Fortnite Festival until now because I wanted to wait a bit to see how it progressed, and the truth is that the game is growing at a pace that I did not expect, and that is what makes me think that unless Xbox reacts and launches a new Guitar Hero, Fortnite Festival could monopolize that vacant place in the rhythm video game industry, and now that they have relaunched dedicated instruments for this game, even more.

In case you live under a rock or are too young to know what Guitar Hero is, basically it's a musical game where you simulate playing a guitar, you have 5 notes and you must play the ones that appear to the rhythm of the music, initially the predominant genre in these games was rock, but over time it diversified, to the point that in Fortnite festival is more a compilation of known songs where in many cases there isn't even a guitar present, but it works.

At Fortnite Festival they encourage you to form bands of 4 people so that each one chooses one of the 4 instruments and play together to achieve higher scores, but for my part I have been playing mostly alone and this is not something for which the game punishes you, in fact, it allows you to choose all the songs yourself, which is very good.

Obviously the novelty of the Festival is that you can use your Fortnite skins in this game mode, in addition to using specific instruments, but they are only worth it when they are given to you for free, because the ones in the store are excessively expensive, for example, with the cost of an instrument you can buy a battle pass.

Speaking of battle passes, the Festival has its own "Festival Pass" separate from the Battle Pass, and this includes free cosmetics as well as others exclusive to the paid tier, the usual. But what might catch your attention about this pass is that each one is focused on a specific artist, the first one was based on The Weeknd, and the current one with Lady Gaga. Personally, I bought The Weeknd's pass, but I must say that at least for now I will not spend V-Bucks on the current one since it is very expensive for what it offers, 1800 V-Bucks is simply too much and doesn't even give you a quarter of the things you can get in the Battle Pass for half the price.

And following this path, it sounds like everything in the Festival is negative, and that's not the case, it's just that everything is very expensive for what it offers, but this is where the free song rotation comes in. Every day you will have a catalog of songs that you can play for free even if you don't buy the songs in the store (which cost 500 V-Bucks each), so if you don't want to empty your entire paycheck on Festival songs, it's best to play with the ones they offer you daily.

When they released this game mode, there was an issue, which was that the variety of songs was very limited. Every two days, we had the same songs and it was like that during the first weeks. However, once 2024 started and the folks at Epic came back from their vacations, they began adding many songs at a very acceptable rate. Even if you don't purchase all of them, or none at all, the free rotation is quite good, and much better compared to what it was like when it was first released.

In terms of gameplay, there isn't much to explain. It's exactly the same as Guitar Hero. You have 4 or 5 keys depending on the difficulty you choose, and the goal is to play all possible notes. If there is a big pause in your instrument during the song, for example, if you chose vocals and haven't sung for a while, the game gives you the option to use emotes while you start playing again. It doesn't contribute much, but it's funny when you play with someone, you're really focused and suddenly one of your friends starts hitting the griddy.

In summary?, it's an entertaining game mode, to pass the time or if you lack a bit of experience to level up, I play it frequently because I genuinely enjoy it, but it's also true that for now, the paid items are very expensive and not worth spending on them.

Voy a ser sincera, extraño Guitar Hero. Esa franquicia que Activision sobreexplotó hace más de 10 años y que ahora no quedan ni las cenizas de su legado, una serie de juegos de ritmo excelente, con una selección de canciones que podía mejorar o empeorar según el juego, pero que en términos generales estaba muy bien, personalmente me gustan mucho el 3 y Warriors of Rock, son los que más he jugado con diferencia y definitivamente me encantaría ver un Guitar Hero hecho con estándares actuales, pero la verdad es que ya podríamos tener uno en progreso, uno que se fortalece con cada semana que pasa.

Por si el título no es lo suficientemente claro, estoy haciendo referencia al Fortnite Festival, ese modo de juego que se agregó al Fortnite junto al Capítulo 5, y que empezó como algo curioso que luego de algunos meses se está consolidando, pero aún le falta trabajo.

No había querido hablar del Fortnite Festival por esperar un poco a ver cómo progresaba, y la verdad es que el juego está creciendo con una velocidad que yo no me esperaba, y eso es lo que me hace pensar que a menos que Xbox reaccione y lance un nuevo Guitar Hero, Fortnite Festival podría monopolizar ese lugar vacante en la industria de los videojuegos de ritmo, y ahora que han relanzado instrumentos dedicados para este juego, aun más.

Por si vives debajo de una piedra o eres muy joven como para saber lo que es Guitar Hero, básicamente es un juego musical donde simulas tocar una guitarra, tienes 5 notas y debes ir tocando las que vayan apareciendo al ritmo de la música, inicialmente el género predominante en estos juegos era el rock, pero con el tiempo se fue diversificando, al punto que en Fortnite festival es más un compilado de temas conocidos donde en muchos casos ni siquiera hay una guitarra presente, pero funciona.

En Fortnite Festival te incitan a formar bandas de 4 personas para que de esta forma cada uno escoja uno de los 4 instrumentos y toquen juntos para poder alcanzar puntuaciones mayores, pero por mi parte he estado jugando mayormente sola y esto tampoco es algo por lo cual el juego te castigue, de hecho, te permite elegir todas las canciones tú, lo cual está muy bien.

Evidentemente lo novedoso del Festival es que puedes usar tus skins del Fortnite en el modo de juego musical, además de usa instrumentos específicos para este modo de juego, pero que solo valen la pena cuando te los regalan, porque los de la tienda son excesivamente caros, por ejemplo, con lo que cuesta un instrumento puedes comprar un pase de batalla de toda la vida.

Hablando de pases de batalla, el Festival tiene su propio pase separado del Battle Pass, y este incluye cosméticos gratuitos así como otros exclusivos del tier de pago, lo típico. Pero lo que te puede llamar la atención de este pase es que cada uno está enfocado en un artista en específico, el primero estuvo basado en The Weekend, y el actual con Lady Gaga, personalmente me compré el pase de The Weekend, pero debo decir que al menos de momento no gastaré paVos en el actual pues es muy costoso para lo que ofrece, 1800 paVos es simplemente demasiado y no de ta ni un cuarto de las cosas que puedes obtener en el Battle Pass por la mitad del precio.

Y siguiendo este rumbo suena a que todo lo que tiene el Festival es negativo, y no es el caso, simplemente todo es muy caro para lo que te ofrece, pero es aquí donde entra la rotación gratuita de canciones. Todos los días tendrás un catálogo de temas que podrás jugar de forma gratuita aunque no compres las canciones en la tienda (que cuestan 500 paVos cada una), por lo que si no quieres vaciar tu sueldo entero en canciones del Festival, lo mejor es que juegues con las que te ofrecen a diario.

Cuando lanzaron este modo de juego había un problema, es que la cantidad de temas era muy escasa, cada dos días teníamos las mismas canciones y fue así durante las primeras semanas, pero una vez inició 2024 y en Epic volvieron de sus vacaciones empezaron a agregar muchas canciones a un ritmo muy aceptable, y aunque no las compres todas, o ninguna, la rotación gratuita es bastante aceptable, y mucho más en comparación a lo que había cuando se estrenó.

A nivel de gameplay no hay mucho que explicar, es exactamente lo mismo que un Guitar Hero, tienes 4 o 5 teclas dependiendo de la dificultad que escojas y la meta es tocar todas las posibles, si hay una pausa muy grande de tu instrumento en la canción, por ejemplo, que hayas escogido la voz y no cantes en un rato, el juego te da la opción de usar emotes mientras vuelves a tocar, no aporta mucho, pero es gracioso cuando juegas con alguien, estás muy concentrado y de la nada uno de tus amigos empieza a hacer el hit the griddy.

¿En resumen?, es un modo de juego entretenido, para pasar el rato o si te falta un poco de experiencia para subir un nivel, yo lo juego con frecuencia porque legítimamente me gusta, pero también es cierto que de momento las cosas de pago son muy caras y no vale la pena gastar en ellas.
