Pewter Gym time!

This is a play through of Pokemon Blue by using RetroArch to emulate the game. I am randomising the Pokemon in areas with similar strength so it isn't completely randomised, while choosing three starters of similar types

I have also changed a setting so it looks more like proper pixels and removed the smoothing and it looks a lot nicer now

After going through a small amount of training by fighting wild Pokemon to level his own a bit further, Goliath headed to Pewter gym to face off against the first trainer and see how tough this fight would be.

First up was a level eleven Diglett which would be tough to beat. Sing being used by Jigglypuff was a good start, which allowed getting Dratini out for a couple turns using Leer before moving on to using Wrap to defeat it, only just though.

With this win it saw Jigglypuff hit level six while the Dratini made level eight so it was great experience gained.

Up next for this trainer and his Pokemon was a Venonat which meant starting with the Jigglypuff to try put it to sleep.. this one briefly worked for a bit of damage before a failing sing and a quick change to Goliath's Venonat to continue this battle.

His Venonat's disable got disabled which was all okay this time.. tackle was plenty to get a few more hits in, including a nice critical hit which brought the trainers Venonat right down low and ready for that final tackle. With a successful battle completed and seeing Jigglypuff hit level 7 while Venonat hit a nice level 10, things were coming together nicely except for feeling like maybe, his Pokemon still needed to be trained some more.

With a feel for the rough power to expect Brock's Pokemon to have which will be a little higher than that trainer, Goliath healed up at the Poke Center before hitting the grass to fight some wild Pokemon and train a little more. He gained another level on a few Pokemon before healing once more, then heading in to face Brock.

What was up first which wasn't going to be too hard of a win, is a level twelve Ekans that could be put to sleep from the Jigglypuff, allowing a smooth change into the Venonat where Ekans had its Wrap disabled.

Venonat took just about half health in this fight as it could only tackle right now and Ekans was still a strong Pokemon with those two extra levels.

But it got defeated still which made room for a level fourteen Nidorino, an evolved for of the male Nidoran and at level 14 it would be a tough ask to pull this win out.. so weakening its stats a bit might help out, which Rattata managed one tail whip before being wiped out.

Dratini was dragged out since Jigglypuff had already fainted before Rattata. Dratini was able to use leer a few times due to Bide being used, a move that would do a lot of damage since it doubles what it took, back as damage. A poison sting saw some poison setting in so an antidote was required!

It was getting closer to this battle being over with Dratini almost getting down to zero health and fainting but managing to hold on, so it could use a second wrap and with leer weakening Nidorino's defence this would be enough to secure the win and to see Brock defeated, gaining Goliath's first badge.

Level ten was gained on Dratini which also gave Thunder Wave as a new move learned for that level. The power of his Pokemon is a bit low and some additional leveling will be required at some point, maybe defeating many trainers too.

Dratini was becoming such a big player in winning harder trainer battles and was an excellent catch for so early on, Jigglypuff has done its rounds too with sing. Time to heal up and next step is heading East along Route three which connects to Mt Moon and Route 4 before Cerulean City.

Emulator used: RetroArch with a Gameboy Colour core
ROMS: Pokemon Blue after being put through the randomiser
Saving: (Used for quick loading and for getting back to before I had all Pokemon faint, if I lose and so it is quicker.)
