Now that's a very intense title to look at, what could it mean if you ponder? Simple, you play as a rogue operative who got tired of the system, but now they want you back. Over your dead body, you've decided. Hence, the trails of bodies will follow.
I already played Anger Foot a while ago, and I can pretty much say, this one's better. Adrenaline rushing to kill from one part of the perimeter to the next. I Am Your Beast is a hyper-paced shooter, where the goal is inflicting absolute destruction against the state that came into your home. With a crazy point system rewarding encouraging you to do so.
It's very quick, straight to the point, short, less-than-a-minute levels, with a whopping variety of weapons to use. If it's not the various takedowns that get you going, it'll be the fast clearance time. This'll be the next aim testing app after Aim Labs, it really cooked.
Ah, the trees on the background, soothing voice, smooth and serene, delineating about birds in the forest, you could swear this was some indie walking simulator. Then, he sort of forest parkour around trees, running swiftly on ropes before there were body counts.
Yeah, this game has better written than 90% of NY bestsellers for spy thrillers or action novels. The fast, sharp-witted, engrossing storytelling with voice acting almost convincing me Jon Hamm was in on it. Add more to the appeal is the comic book art style. Ok, wow, that's already pushing it to the ceiling. Is there more to it? Yeah, the rest of the freaking game.
With obvious inspirations like Hanna, Bourne series, and maybe a bit of that Sheriff Of Babylon thing going on. The plot revolves around a self-retired agent who is being dragged back into the force by a general. Having his forest home surrounded by his company, there's a lot going.
Some of them hiding their frequency to give him info so that they're spared in return, and you'll see why. Colorful characters and great potty mouths, it reels me in, feeling like I'm in this high production work of art. The dialogues playing on the screen with these big texts are even lively, especially for Hardin, who monologues about the forest once in a while to help understand who he exactly is.
That narrative immersion, coalesce with the gameplay, the part I got to enjoy. Hardin is a fast killer, long as I have a good mouse, he can precision throw anything, objects, guns even. Killing enemies even send their guns flying, while picked mid-way and creating brutal shootouts. He's agile, nimble, slides fast, can take bullet shots, this is all happening on the open areas, with multiple ways to die. There's a timer, objectives to complete, racking up kill moves to increase time, that's too much.
I haven't felt this overwhelmed in a speedrun type since Neon White. Doing one run is I assume a story completion, before the bonus tasks show up. I have to shoot hornets nests, do melee only runs, do bear trap kills with X amount, sniper shots, there's plenty, and it's super varied.
I did these runs so many times, If I wasn't going for the score, probably be done with this in 3-4hrs. That's not going to cut it for me. Has multiple approaches, despite the difficulty scaling, to completion. This is how you teach kids to play Esports. Maybe twitch shooters, but damn, I want to have a go at it again while writing this. There's just nothing quite like it.
Played about 1/4, and I feel like there's more to come. Enemy designs also kept shifting, as well as the maps. I swear, they could have easily procedurally generated all this easily, even if the aesthetics look similar, and night and day hue all over. Like I said, he parkours, multiple playthroughs help to explore and memorize the areas before completing each runs successfully.
Also, besides story missions, they have these challenges. No dialogue, no monologues, no mission directive, just kill fast or survive enemy waves, or you know, other different modes to spice it up for you. There's not a moment I felt like I was losing interest as I continued getting better and better.
So, where did this game even come from? Yeah, turns out it's made by the guys who did El Paso, Elsewhere and Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator. These and a few other uniquely esoteric titles, and they made a smash hit. If it becomes a smash hit, which it should.
It's 18 bucks, like super addictive gameplay loop, fun levels, weapon and enemy variety, should keep anyone busy for a few good days. Also, damn, I'm really interested in knowing who this Hardin character is, maybe like an added lore section would be nice?
