I never finished RDR, and the same for RDR2. I don't know, as much as I liked the story, characters, and setting, I just couldn't finish it. But for some reason, one of them being in total isolation, I finished the entire run for Undead Nightmare to the somewhat twisted ending.

This DLC is just a welcome gift from the madmens of Rockstar Games, it has no bearing on the main plot, and solely exists to entertain while also providing great moments of chuckles, insanity, and bewilderment. Super fun DLC, but to be honest, it is really stripped bare compared to the main game. And the public's reception towards it a little overrated.

But that's my take, I did think this was a fun game to play and enjoy throughout nonetheless. Just ask yourself if you have what it takes to be the cowboy of the apocalypse, and find the source of all the madness in the small part of the west.

Beyond all prospects of playing an open world game is a giant zombie apocalypse mini-game where half of them are about finding towns, getting rid of zombie infestation, and then coming back to said town in case it gets invaded again. But there's more to it, of course.

You like killing Sasquatches? Have at it. Rope pulling zombies after throwing a bait at them, and then having the other zombies follow to an eventual doom. If you find a gatling gun, you about to have some real fun. There are so many weapons to obtain. Ammunition shops are gone? No problem, just loot zombies, open boxes, and do what you can to keep going. There's literally a gun called boomstick that blows zombies to chunks in range using zombie body parts.

It's more limited from the base game, but still, so much of this stuff is dumb fun anyway. It sucks Rockstar doesn't do DLCs like these anymore, they did it with GTA IV by releasing two amazing story DLCs. That just tells you the devs let themselves make games they love, with so many talented working in these. The live service focus lately took all that away.

Undead Nightmares also has you dealing with challenges, for example, you throw your precious horse in a zombie horde, and they die, you get your resurrected zombie horse whose stupidly fast, but kind of jerks around during travel. I've fallen from mountain tops to draw bridges and down to water thanks to these obnoxious things.

No worries, the 4 horses of the apocalypse will fix that. All you have to do is move around, wait till a mystical creature shows, and then you know "tame" them. Soon, you get horses that set zombies on fire, unleash toxins, and so on. No special powers for you, though.

One complaint is the aiming, god forbid, if a player didn't learn how to use dead eye, they'd be dead alright. Sorry, didn't mean to make that rhyme, but you get the gist. The game isn't like the best when it comes to range, and melee combat. Especially with so many zombies, and little munition to get around. Experimentation is encouraged.

Crowd controlling is also important, I mean, you'll be facing different kinds of zombies, even the acid spewing ones and those that sprint in 4 limbs. Zombie dogs, wolves, coyotes, jaguars, bears, etc. No worries, Marston can shoot his way out of anything.

Now for story, what's there to tell? Well, their neighbor uncle took a bite at Marston wife, and then the son. Soon, they both became possessed and start trying to come at him. Hogtied, and kept in their home, Marston goes to investigate in Blackwater.

And what he found was what we horror fans expected. The town's people are too dumbfounded and terrified by what's going on, some have taken to higher grounds and fend off the undead. That is also where Marston comes in to assist. Well, I mean who else with the sharp aiming, and absolute god given will power besides him?

Spooky shenanigans aside, yeah, I had multiple encounters with people. Including ones that kept their death tied to a rope and fed other people's body parts. I think you know where this is going. But that's nothing compared to what goes on in Mexico. People there are crazy, one guy even started munching on cooked zombie flesh. But nothing is as crazy as the dude who wants to do a sniper competition, to give free rounds. Dastardly.

Then again, the main story has the same insane characters from the base still doing ridiculous stuff. The old doctor still selling terrible tonics, the maniac, Seth somehow managed to get the zombies dancing, and playing cello. That guy is not from this planet.

There is without a shadow of doubt, that when it comes to DLC, Rockstar pushed the envelope, and showed the others what for. This one also covers the entire main map even. No place has been spared. Man, I sure do miss playing Xbox 360 games. Would have helped if the upscaling wasn't terrible on my 1440p monitor. Anything looks butt ugly.

Also, the highest kill count I did in one deadshot is 8. Would you believe it? The controller aiming is crap, analog was worn out after years of use. Yeah, so much fun. Not good for playing specific games that are sensitive to the analog directions.

Sort:

At the end if it seems to be a very good dlc, just listening to it makes me want to play it.
