Traveling is such a privilege and when you can’t afford the actual travel but yearn for it, one of the ways is through coffee.
Through coffee, to name a few, I’ve traveled through Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, Honduras, even Guatemala. Sometimes when I was extra blessed, I was able to taste unique coffee such as Laotian coffee that is grown in Bolaven plateau. This coffee isn’t quite well-known yet but I am sure, one day it will finally come to light and get the fame it deserves.
The coffee produced in different plateaus and region have quite distinct characteristic and taste that they can never be the same. This is also the case with Indonesia, where each region produced different kinds of coffee with its unique flavor that can be extracted from the beans.
With the rise of crafted and artisan coffee, many companies are starting to produce freshly roasted coffee by order and offering coffee produced from various region in the country.
In the past, indulging in this kind of artisan and crafted coffee was only available for those who sought out niches cafe and roasters. It was catered only for the so-called “Hipsters” yet now it’s commercialized and anyone can have a taste of a finely roasted coffee that is crafted with dedication and passion.
One company in particular is Arutala, I’ve come to know this company after I was gifted a birthday gift. I began researching their coffee and options and decided that they are the kind of company I was looking for, offering a way for me to travel through Indonesia with their various coffee selections.
A pleasant journey with Arutala
Arutala company offers a way to travel through Indonesian’s coffee that are available in Arabica or Robusta variation. Each of the package has 10 different coffee from different region in the country. They even sell that unique Luwak coffee as well. But this time, I got their 10 diverse coffee that will take me exploring Indonesia through coffee.
Inside the box, they have 10gr fine ground coffee where our journey starts from Aceh, Java, Bali, Flores, Malabar, to Wamena, the most eastern part of Indonesia. They are put in this neatly packaging that was secure and ensuring once we open the packaging, we can smell a heavenly flavor of the coffee. There will be different smell to it as each region offers different characteristic.
Among the 10 coffee included in the box, I’ve only tried Bali & Java coffee. Since I don’t have an espresso machine yet , I was using this drip bag to brew the coffee. This drip bag is some of the best way to brew coffee without it loosing too much flavor. It’s certainly going to be light and offers lighter taste. However, if you’re experimental like myself, you can definitely switch it up. The key is having frother that will help foam up the dripped coffee.
Arabica Bali
Here’s the thing about artisan and crafted coffee, the taste of it will be noticeable even if you add milk to it. It’s not those bitter tasting coffee without flavor but even if you add milk to it, you can still taste the unique flavor of them.
The sweetest journey with Arabica Java
This is my brew of Arabica Jawa (java) that has sweet notes to it. This one was best with added milk and some stevia. It’s one of those coffee that you drink when you need some happiness and caffeine fix.
When I froth the drip, they create a foam that enhances the look of the coffee and I’d add milk to it which adds more pleasant taste to this naturally sweet coffee.
This journey was a pleasant journey that I didn’t want to end. I wanted more of it and I know, next time I need to get a bigger batch of this coffee variant.
For now, the journey has to end here and see you in my next Arutala coffee journey and my way of spicing it up!
