Side House Coffee: Cozy Aesthetics & A Story Of A Café Voldemort

Have you ever thought about building a coffee shop on the side of your house? Side House thought about that. It's not a typical coffee shop built in a newly acquired land, rather it's a house that was renovated and turned into a coffee house. Though there are many places like that around where I am from that have a cozy aesthetic, this one is a little modernized. I came to know about this place from an instagram reels and its location isn't exactly easy to find. Think of it like an actual hidden gem.

I visited the place just before the sun set. It was a month ago when the weather was also still beautiful and the sky was filled with hues of pink making it a beautiful canvas above me. Just as you can see on the picture below how the clouds create a contrast with the sky.

Side house is a place where people come to enjoy their afternoon but another time when I went there in the morning, it was bustling. I love how lemongrass decorated their front yard area. During the afternoon, they really look aesthetic but they’re also functional to keep mosquitoes at bay.

When we came to the coffee shop, we wanted to enjoy a great cup of coffee. Just like how we come to a restaurant, we wanted to enjoy a great meal made by the chef. We want nothing sort of ordinary.

It was the feel that I got from the cafe, the barista and everyone in it tries to make us feel welcomed as a guest and a customer. They tried to serve their best menu and made sure our orders were up to par. They made sure we have the best experience in the place.

I ordered my cappuccino, it’s a routine and habit to test a new place. If they taste up to par, I would go back but if it’s not, I definitely would never bother coming back.

While waiting for my order, I went around to see other areas of the coffee shop. From my findings, they have several spots where we can enjoy coffee with our friends, family or loved ones. They are all semi-private so keep the private conversations at home, don’t air it out over here.

When my coffee came, I was seated at the sharing table, I wasn’t intending to get any sort of work done. I just wanted to be there, enjoying the coffee. Typically, I go to a coffee shop to work from but these days with a proper table and my desk, I hardly step away from the cafe to do that. Maybe now, I realized what I had been missing from life all this time by being a digital nomad. To enjoy coffee and coffee shops as is, rather than using them as a place to work from.

You know, I learned this term from a movie I watched recently, Would you like a cup of coffee? That is their title and there is a guy who earned a nickname of Voldermort because he visits a coffee shop as his office and then, the barista basically said something like the one who can’t be named. Maybe all the baristas at the coffee shop I went to, thought of me like that, how fun haha.

Okay, now back to geeking out about the coffee. Their latte art was pretty decent but the coffee and the milk itself was a seven out of ten. I have to say that though it was good, I simply had better. That doesn’t mean I won’t come back, I might do but just not as often as I’d like it to be. At least, you know the latte art makes up for it.

The cappuccino was the only thing I ordered from that cafe that day and typically, I would order more but after that taste test, I came back with my friend and tried a few other dishes and their food, theirs was awesome.

I ordered a butter chicken rice. It was rice and egg and yummy buttered chicken. I have to say it was one of the most delicious meals I’ve had in a while. I think that for food, I would go here rather than the coffee itself.

That was my experience visiting side house coffee and in the process of writing this, I realised I might be a Café Voldemort all these years. Das ist alles!

Funny and interesting concept. My city has too many regulations and would never allow a side house cafe, but I think it's a great idea.

Over here we have way too many regulations but too many loopholes. Afterall, the way over here works is that as long as you have money, nothing is impossible. Laws typically can be bought and money is the one that talks haha. I guess it's a lot different from there?

Ah yes, that's one way of getting things done quickly. People try to get around regulations here, but it's not so easy, especially if the neighbors rat you out. 😀

if the neighbors rat you out. 😀

haha nosey neighbor is everyone least favorite

😆

I liked that idea. Having a business on the side of the house. It's just that we built our house in the wrong place. I hope someday I can find the perfect place for this kind of business.

It's interesting especially when you can also combine it with your house. So that'll cut a lot of costs. I hope one day you can find the perfect place to build space like that. 😊
