Hello, everyone.
As promised, here are some photos of the area and landscape surrounding the garden that I shared in my last post.
On the way here and while walking around over the past week, I have collected some of the sights that I found most interesting.
May you enjoy these photos of the Marlborough Sounds region of New Zealand.
While crossing the Cook Strait, I shot this photo out the window of our cabin of the northern part of the South Island coming into view.
Looking in from the access road to the bay at low tide with regenerating native bush on the hillsides and the neighbouring farm on the flat land.
Out the front gate to the road, looking directly back at the place where the previous photo was taken. Across a small strip of grass is access to the water. Behind is the house and garden.
My own silhouette and a temporary bridge to get over a muddy spot. The water is fresh, flowing from the hills into the bay.
An indication of erosion, an old fence post stands on the shore, far from the property behind, the boundary of which it used to mark.
The shore is scattered with amazing pieces of driftwood, and I wish I could take a truckload of them home. Another small freshwater trickle flowing to sea. Pine forestry on the hill in the background.
Pine stump holding back a slip. Slate terrace underneath. I like being able to see the roots of a plant. Good candidates for bonsai were all along this hillside.
Again, the roots of this tree are exposed, showing how far below the surface a large tree stretches as well as how much work they do holding the soil in place.
A larger freshwater stream flowing out of the native forest composed of beech, nikau, harakeke and others.
The tide coming in. The island across the bay in full sun. Some mussel farms just visible.
That's all. The journey home begins tomorrow. Bonsai and other garden-related tasks await at home. Enjoy the last of these travel photos.
