Have you ever posted your content and just let it circulate its way through user feeds without promoting it?
Well yes, i never used to promote posts, but i bought some #ecency points a year or so ago (hoping that if / when ecency launch a token and swap points for tokens) and i get rewarded i think over 100 ecency points per day due to delegating HP and using the app, so for last few months or more i've been using some points (i have about 50,000) to promote some (not all) of my posts.
What are your thoughts about that?

Firstly, the points are yours, at the end of the day you're free to do as you wish with them. You earned them or purchased them or whatever, do as you wish. On that note..
I'm an Ecency user so I understand the points. Unless my memory fails me, I've never heard about good-karma developing a token. Not that he isn't, I just haven't heard. That said, points are redeemable through boosting and promoting.
I wrote a lengthy explanation here several months back about points; how I use them and why, how often as well as what I consider, to an extent, abusing points. I said it all in that article so I'll try not to make this response much longer. I'm good at doing that.
Think of it like this, say YouTube promoted a daily feel-good-blog. Day in, day out, sign into YouTube and there it is again, the feel-good-blog. There's a lot of stuff you'd like to see and maybe you signed in specifically looking for Joe Blows fresh content but you can't find it because YouTube keeps promoting their self—won't work.
Now if they do anything other than promote their own self and they use their platform which is what you and I own here, our own platform because we have stake in the game, they're hugely successful.
These are just examples and I typically go against the grain compared to majority opinion but I subscribe to LA Times, right? Mainly because I'm from LA but occasionally I like to know what bullshit they're feeding. That occasionally would be Zero if every time I tuned in all I see is "Read LA Times! Read LA Times!" "Read LA Times! Read LA Times! Read LA Times! Every 2 outta 8 new articles.

Thanks for your reply. i do my best not to jump to conclusions or make assumptions (after all, to assume is to make an ass out of me and u).
i have to say that the promoted posts on @ecency bug me somewhat. Every 5th post is a promoted one. If i do a search or browse in a niche community especially, then i don't want to be seeing mostly completely unrelated promoted posts all the time. i have brought this up with ecency on more than one occasion suggesting perhaps every 10th post instead would be better. No change yet several months later so prob won't change unless more ecency users request. i recall they did however make the "Promoted Post" label more prominent at my suggestion so easier to just skip past without reading the preview.
Re. #ecencytoken, i recall asking about that possibility a year or so ago before buying points and was told that it was their intention to do so, but no timescale given.

Pleasure's mine atma.love. I'm glad we agree the promotion feature needs attention. I've suggested to good-karma several times now to add a feature allowing us to hide or mute promoted content. I was told on more than one occasion they're working on implementing that.
I feel bad ignoring authors ever but not so much if it's because they promote habitually. The worst is when they play on repeat in my feed days or even weeks after its pay period expired.

i think the ability to be able to hide promoted posts in your feed, automatically, once you have viewed them or even better once you have scrolled past them, and perhaps to choose to hide all together in niche communities especially, would be an awesome feature, and i would even be prepared to pay for that feature (in ecency points). Not sure if that is technically possible though. @good-karma?
i always use the 7 day option when i promote as it's the best value, and have sometimes promoted other peeps posts or comments when they are particularly good (again for 7 days).
Although i admit i promote to get more votes, it's at least if not more the reason i promote because i think the posts i do promote are valuable for peeps to know about. But what do i know! Indeed who or what am i?
Still, i take note of your comments and will use the promote option more cautiously in future, and probably limit to 1 day from now on.
i'd not thought of boosting others posts/comments, and will likely do so from now on.

Thanks for hearing me out Sam. You'd be surprised how long I've been explaining this to authors. Each time I use a similar approach as I did with you which I don't think is aggressive at all. However, I've lost count how many times they think I'm attacking them and before I get a chance to explain myself they're calling me names and downvoting and yata yata.
