Welcome Back, to Blue's Garden Tips: Sowing Potato in 2023!

My family LOVES Fresh Potato! Nothing Like it, and this is how I sow and grow my own potato to feed my family. I plant in Fabric Grow Bags, 3 twenty five gallon and 2 ten gallon bags. Find out how I make my own grow mix, and what fertilizers I use. I sow twice per year, in each container. My gardens are in New England, zone 6b/7a.

Sowing Potato for #GroVid23!

Please give this a watch and perhaps, consider giving my video a like and subscribe to my channel. I could use all the help I can get.

For the last few years, I have planted 3 twenty five gallon (95 liter) fabric Grow Bags of potato usually, around March 17th (St. Paddy's day!). This year, with our nasty winter weather, I have managed to plant potato yesterday. Finally.

Normally, it takes about 3 or 3 1.2 months for the potato to be ready for harvest. Once the green growth becomes yellowed, and starts to drop over, that means the potato are ready for harvesting:

Once I harvest, onto a table to allow the potato to cure:

After I harvest, (Usually early July) I immediately refresh the soil, add some more fertilizer and replant Potato, to get a second harvest, end of October.

Most of you know, I prefer locally grown food. It's healthier for my family, and for the planet. In fact, I prefer to grow my own food. I know what goes into my foods, and what chemicals are NOT in my food. Also, It cuts down on carbon emissions, less trucking to get fresh foods to my table.

And that makes me smile... better for the planet, better for my own family.

Two harvests in your zone seems pretty ambitious. I wouldn't have thought of trying that 👍

i tried it in 2021, and surprise, it worked!
So, did it again last year, and will try again this year.

bad news, I beleive it's part of the climate change issue.

These potatoes look very attractive and healthy for consumption. I love to each because of it sweet and nutritious. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful and fresh potatoes, making me salivate already. The red colour potato is my favorite. I often ate them raw back in the day, I just hope that does not come with any effects.

I heard that eating them raw makes people post on Hive.

😂😂😂😂
Maybe I should keep seeing them raw so that I could keep posting frequently.

Love that variety. Meanwhile on our side of the pond we cannot get potatoes to grow. Never mind a variety. But, I still agree, nothing like fresh and home grown potatoes

Why no growing? Drought? disease?

Well the last attempt was doing fabulously and suddenly all got red spider mite. But usually....I think it's simply too hot here

Ahh, yeah, pests are a problem!

Wao potatoes looking very nice.
I love kitchen gardening.
I also sowed onion.
Few days are left onion to be prepared.
Nice content brother.
Keep it up the good work.

I have onion getting ready to plant soon.

Oh nice.
Keep it up bro
Its a very nice and profitable hobby.

Two harvests in the same year? Do you get the same yield from both of them? Btw, you potatoes look nice.

Surprised to see a farming post from you. Did not expect it at all. 😉

Soon to plant Sweet Potato here! ^_^

Fsntastic. My daughters and wife LOVE sweet Potato!

I did try to grow potatoes from what’s left in the fridge. The leaves came up like dense forest. But I could hardly get any big potatoes. Only a few small ones were left in the bucket. Must try again!

feed them LOTS of nitrogen to start, and them LOTS of Potassium a month in for larger potato

Thanks so much for the information. This is very helpful.

What kind are the black ones? Is there any difference from the regular?

Usual variety here are red (for frying and baking) and white (for cooking).

Not sure where your garden is located at, but we only manage to have annual harvest...

They are actually deep purple in colour, not black.
I make Mashed potato wiht the red, or roasted vegetables, with any of the coloured potato.
The yukon gold I use for Baked, usually.

Reminds on beetroot, had no chance to try it out.

I haven't tried growing Beetroot, either.

This year will be beetroot experimental! :D
