To Get The BEST Vegetables, You NEED the BEST SOIL!
Great vegetable harvest need great soil. AND, I do NOT leave my soil health to chance. I actively FEED my soil.

FEED THE SOIL, NOT YOUR PLANTS
I make my OWN compost, as buying bagged or even cheaper BULK Compost is still obscenely expensive, AND by making it, I am taking care of my old plants, my scraps from the kitchen, and making sure I have HEALTHY soil.

I've been making compost for a few years now, and I have perfected the best way to make it. Similar to making Lasagna, you need a great recipe, and the right ingredients. Follow along to see how I add my greens and browns, what type of layering and more, for rich, healthy compost for use in my garden Fabric Grow Bags

I plant almost ALL my vegetables in Fabric Grow Bags
Planting in grow bags, means I control what soil and fertilizers go into my gardens. I use a mix of 1/3 my own compost, 1/3 resued soil from last year's bags, and 1/3 Sphagnum Peat Moss from Canada. Peat Moss from Canada is a sustainable product. The Peat harvested in the UK is coming from OLD world Peat Bogs, and Strip mined, without a plan for replacing it.

My compost sometimes becomes stagnant despite ensuring that only organic material is included... Any tips?

biggest tips someone gave me:

Add more Nitrogen (coffee grounds, green grass clippings, etc)
and keep it moist (water once a week during the spring n summer)

When you say, only organic material is included, what are you adding for carbon? shredded paper? dead, brown leaves? tiny sticks/twigs?

Great looking soil. We aren't into a routine yet with our soil. We started our raised bed a couple years ago so brought in some top soil to get it started. Filled them hugelkultur style. We added some Moo Doo compost this year to enhance the soil. Need to get a good composting routine started. We started composting at our home in Cali before we moved but haven't picked it back up.

I watched the whole video.

...I don't have time for that method. I just throw everything into huge piles.

Eventually, it breaks down.
It takes years, but I got space for it...
Rarely does this get hot enough, so I have a lot of active seeds in there, still.

Also, I don't grow in pots, as that would mean more work for me.
I just try to ammend the soil that's already here.

As for commercial compost:
People are willing to pay good money (especially commercial organic growers) for consistent compost.
Everything will rot eventually, but to make similar compost every year is not an easy task, at all. It's what pros need, though.

sounds good. eventually everything breaks down.
I have to get rid of old plants, leaves, and grass clippings, so Might as well make something out of it. By keeping it compact, that gives it a chance to neat up enough to kill weeds n seeds

Love composting! I am definitely going to get one going when we get a house, I had a really good pile going where we live now but some miserable old coots complained about it and I decided to not listen to their bullshit. I still throw all my seeds and things out into the woods though to let it recycle! :D

I go the faster route.. but I know it’s likely not the best. We do get the organic shellfish and other ingredient compost bags from Maine, those work really well for the garden! I’m actually going to get the pots going this year, and the bags here sound like a pretty good plan.
