I really hate one statement from a Minister in this country who said that we the people should plant our own chili at home. He said it without thinking. We pay expensive taxes for someone who is not even able to handle it. It seems like he said it without thinking and that is what makes me as a taxpayer very worried about the sustainability of our lives in the next five years.

It's not why, one of the food commodities, chili is an interest for the people of this country. The spicy sensation of chili is very much needed to enjoy any food even though it is very simple. The important thing is that there is only chili then hunger can be overcome.

As a home farmer, I see this as a big problem. Not another reason but planting chili is not as easy as imagined. It takes discipline and also knowing the right techniques. I think, chili is an agricultural commodity that is very difficult and not everyone can do it.

That is what causes the price of chili to be expensive. There are many factors that cause chili to not grow well in certain weather and even in certain planting media. I know quite a bit about the struggle of a chili farmer in maintaining his garden to continue planting chili in the midst of unpredictable weather, even triggering pests and diseases that attack chili trees that can produce in just one harvest.

I can give an example of how I really struggled with the chili that I planted at home. There are two different types of chili plants and they have their own difficulties. Both are even treated very differently. I separated them very far, the two pots are 20 meters apart so that they can grow well.

I mean, it's not that it can't be planted, but it's not easy. The chili that is usually used is the type of chili that is most difficult to plant. Even from the beginning of planting chili, the difficulty was very obvious. I often tried, even from the beginning the seeds that grew were selected very much, from 10 seeds to 2 that could survive. Is that the right solution to overcome the increasing price of chili? Absolutely no.

Therefore, I am very disappointed with the statement that is not a solution. It could be that the government can make a real contribution in the field and regulate the right price so that there is no such high price fluctuation. In fact, I can say that government intervention towards chili farmers should be very strong so that it can help farmers improve the quality and also the quality of their harvest.

I even almost gave up on planting chili in the future. Because in my opinion, chili is an agricultural product that requires special skills.
