My plants back home.. 😭 I haven't seen them in months 😭

Hi, I am Khoola!

You guys are probably thinking, "This Khoola... also do gardening!?" Why yes! These are but one of my hobbies!

Here are some of them FYI:

  • Cooking (got rusty, but a few practices will get me back inline)
  • Laundry (can do whites and colors)
  • Child Caring (just not babies, scared of em)
  • Teaching Kids (reading, writing, math, etc.)
  • Cleaning (can go from roof to drainages and changing diapers)
  • House Repairs (yep, I am very handy to have at home... and of low maintenance 😁)

Enough of that, I am here for the #GroVid22 week 1 challenge in collaboration with @Dreemport.

GroVid22 Challenge 1 for HiveGarden with DreemPort here is a link for anyone who would like to join.

What Do I LOVE About Gardening And Growing?

Well, love for me is a story. I didn't wake up one day and just started growing plants. No sirs and mams I didn't! There has to be a beginning.

Let me first tell you something about the protagonist (me 😁). I was born and raised in Makati City, The Financial Center of the Philippines. I have no idea of gardening but Fate led me to marry a country girl and live in the country.

1587785087035.jpgPicture of our house several years ago. It's about a hundred square meters. We built it from the foundations up, on top of 'sand'. Behind those coconut trees is the sea 🌊.

In the image above, you can see a small tree standing in front of my house. I never knew what kind of tree it was but I spared it and cleaned out the rest of its friends.

After that, I told my wife, "Love! You see that tree... that will be our Christmas tree!" You can probably imagine the look on her face. 😂

I took really good care of that tree. Watered it every morning, pruned it... researched. Made sure it is as healthy as can be.

This started a yearly event.

I believe in giving back to the community and I also love children. Every Christmas I buy a lot of candies then ask all the children in the fisherman's village to put them on the tree.

The next day they line up and pick up the candies they put up plus a little extra from me.

Everyone loves that tree as much as I do but problems always come. My children started becoming sick. The elders told me it is because my front door is open to the road and I need to redirect it somehow. (Superstitions are norms in the countryside)

"You need to build some kind of porch, so the kids won't be so sickly anymore." Said the village elders. I believe in science and technology but I won't risk my children's health for my pride. If a porch can help to elevate my kids' health I say, "Build it!"

Another problem is the "porch" threatens my tree.

Solution:

I asked the village if I can extend my "porch" effectively extending my property so that I can save the tree.

It was a resounding, "Yes!"

The yearly celebration now has a roof, but the candies are no longer placed on the tree. Instead, it became an event that I host where everybody in the village contributes.

It has become the place where the village celebrates the holidays

)

The rest of the year it is a breeding ground for butterflies. It is really fun to watch the kids look at them fluttering around the tree then watch every day till the caterpillars evolve into butterflies.

This is the very first plant or tree I take care of personally, every detail. From here my plants started to multiply. The villagers started giving me plants, flowers vegetables, and all sorts of other green things which I got no idea what they are 😂.

I also asked for my backyard to be extended, which was also approved.

Sadly though last year, the tree died while I am away working. 😭

It was replaced by a "Christmas Tree". 🎄

Thank you for reading 😁

Hi, @khoola

It is nice to see the joy of the children

A Big Hug

Thank you so much, me too... love to see them smile.

thank you so much for coming by, I really appreciate it :)

I love what you're doing with the kids. I'm sure they love you for that. The village seems like a really lovely neighborhood.

They love that—too much 😂. My house is always littered by kids making my wife angry 🤣. It is a lovely neighborhood,I don't fear... I can open my doors knowing I can trust everyone.

Thank you for stoping by. I really appreciate it.

Thank you! 😁

😢The Tree died and got replaced by a Christmas Tree? I hope santa takes good care of that tree in treedaland🎅
Beautiful initiative Khoola, brining in your family and the community. Awesome ♥️🤗

Yeah, me too... hope Santa take cares good care of my tree.

Thank you for stopping by Starr, I really appreciate it :)

I Always enjoy reading such stories, my pleasure and thank you for sharing💕🤗

Loved this post! I learnt a lot about life where you are. I love how you had a ritual that started with the tree and invited the village in to be together with a strong sense of community. How does the tree survive? It obviously gets enough light.

Are your children still sick? Do you know what was wrong with them? I wonder what it was. REgardless of whether the porch helped them, it's a nice addition to your home! It must extend the living space a little too.

Ghad, every year the villagers keep asking, "Whats for Christmas?" 😂 but it is more fun that way.

How does the tree survive?

I specifically asked the builders to take careful consideration of the tree. Because we can't dig it out without killing it in the process. Putting an open space around its trunk is a must. Every morning I clean every leaf on the tree then wash it down. I let the caterpillars roam to eat the old leaves forcing the tree to sprout new ones.

I did this as an everyday.

Last year (I am at work for months out) wife called and said, "The caterpillars ate all the leaves and the tree died." 😅

Are your children still sick? Do you know what was wrong with them? I wonder what it was. Regardless of whether the porch helped them, it's a nice addition to your home! It must extend the living space a little too.

I was a long time ago. They keep getting sick even with all the doctors and medicine. After I built the porch things gradually got better, unsure if it is because of that or just pure coincidence.

The porch was worth it!

The kids only comes home either to eat or sleep. 😂 If it is just me and my wife it is too big already.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate you stopping by my post and not to mention your lovely comment. Again thank you very much!

With so much power comes so much responsibility @khoola, you got some pretty cool action going on with the landscape lol. Um, Santa's gonna have to make a note to come and take care of that tree! We'll remind him it's for the children! That'll work!!! Hahaha! It's the pits to have a nice little plant of any kind die off, but this works for the best I suppose!

Butterflies are super cool!!! I love watching them as much as watching Hummingbirds.

Yes,being look up by the kids now makes me feel like I have the resposibility to be a person they would want to be... one day or they make me feel that way. 😅

Thank you so much for your support... as always, thank you so much, I really appreciate it!

A wonderful read Mat❣️ You shine at blogging. You connect so well with your readers, so personable, relatable. You are a joy to read. I !LUV that you created a real sense of community around a non-Christmas Christmas Tree and filled your home with the love and joy of children and their laughter. This is indeed very special. @khoola

YOu are already in the right place if you are doing this in regards to a challenge by @dreemport! You need to work on saying the phrase... "The End!" (Don't tell @dreemsteem I said that lol). So... from your post:

I believe in giving back to the community and I also love children. Every Christmas I buy a lot of candies then ask all the children in the fisherman's village to put them on the tree.

This is probably the coolest thing I have seen, in some time. Just ask @shadowspub "It's All About Community"... and children certainly to keep it real, don't they? My fiance and I aren't married. But to us, we are... we have a respective 14 grandchildren we love, so I sure agree with your mindset. With all of the world's technology, I think we sometimes forget to remember what is most important... and you certainly help to remind us what is. I wonder... have you seen this awesome post and challenge @mrnightmare89? Thank you for sharing this with us my friend... and good luck with your post!

😂 I'll practice "The End!" on my post... thank you so much and I wont tell @dreemsteem I promise!

I am a city boy. so I understand "science and technology" very well. But living in the countryside reminded me how simple life really is and how that is more than enough already.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words... from the bottom of my heart :)
