Hello friends, it's really been a long time since I've uploaded content here and I haven't really had time to grow something or take care of the garden, however I would like to show you something that left me pleasantly surprised and that makes me very, very happy. .
Hola amigos, de verdad que hace muchísimo tiempo que yo no subí contenido aquí y es que realmente no he tenido tiempo de cultivar algo o cuidar del jardín, sin embargo me gustaría mostrarles algo que me dejó gratamente sorprendida y que me hace muy pero muy feliz.
A long time ago, approximately two years ago, I sowed some Onoto seeds (in other countries they know it as Achiote) in the yard of our house in Montalbán, a village west of the Carabobo State in Venezuela, I did it there because the yard is vast, unlike the house we live in in the city of Valencia which is small. Many times I visited the town and I could see how the Achiote plants grew and became more and more leafy and beautiful, however they did not bear their fruits, these apparently were taking too long, or so I thought, until I did a little research in On the internet I discovered that this plant takes at least two years to bear fruit, and I recently confirmed that this is true since I recently went to town and found this pleasant surprise.
Hace mucho tiempo, aproximadamente dos años atrás, yo sembré unas semillas de Onoto (en otros países lo conocen como Achiote) en el patio de nuestra casa en Montalbán, un pueblo al oeste del Estado Carabobo en Venezuela, lo hice allí porque el patio es vasto, a diferencia de la casa en la que vivimos en la ciudad de Valencia la cual es pequeña. Muchas veces visité el pueblo y pude ver como las plantas de Achiote crecían y se hacían cada vez más frondosas y hermosas, sin embargo no daban sus frutos, estos al parecer se estaban tardando demasiado, o eso creía yo, hasta que investigando un poco en internet descubrí que esta planta tarda mínimo dos años en dar sus frutos, y recientemente confirmé que eso es cierto ya que hace poco fuí al pueblo y me encontré esta agradable sorpresa.
My aunt, who lives next to our house in the town, had told me that from one moment to the next the plants were bearing fruit so I went to check it, it had many bulbs, or I don't know what to call them, but there were too many, some were still green but many others were ripe and even the bulbs were beginning to open to reveal the seeds inside.
Mi tía, que vive junto a nuestra casa del pueblo me había dicho que de un momento a otro las plantas estaban dando frutos así que fui a comprobarlo, tenía muchos bulbos, o no sé como llamarlos, pero eran demasiados, algunos estaban verdes aún pero muchos otros estaban maduros e incluso los bulbos comenzaban a abrirse para revelar las semillas en el interior.
There are really many and that made me quite happy because I did not expect to obtain so much, and there are still some to mature, but they will surely do so very soon.
De verdad son muchos y eso me puso bastante feliz 😃 porque no esperaba obtener tanta cantidad, y eso que aún faltan algunos por madurar, pero seguramente lo harán muy pronto.
These seeds are widely used as coloring in Latin American cuisine, in Venezuela (my country) they are essential to dye corn flour dough to make empanadas and more commonly hallacas (a typical Christmas dish). It has no flavor, it only adds color. to foods, however, while doing my research I also discovered that these seeds are also used in cosmetics and even medicines.
Estas semillas se usan mucho como colorante en la cocina latinoamericana, en Venezuela (mi país) son imprescindibles para teñir las masas de harina de maíz para hacer empanadas y más comúnmente las hallacas (un plato típico navideño) No tiene sabor alguno, solo aporta color a las comidas, sin embargo, mientras hacía mis investigaciones también descubrí que estas semillas también son utilizadas en cosméticos e incluso medicinas.
