What we are growing this year in our garden in Maryland

in #hive-1406352 years ago

Hi everyone I hope you are all having a great day and beating the heat! I love plants of all sorts and I really appreciate being able to see and share fun stuff here on Peakd :o)

This year we have quite a few perennial plants that are coming back with little to no work involved, which is awesome!!! I also go hiking daily with my dog Drizzt in the nearby woods and collect a ton of raspberries, mulberries, and blackberries when they are in season 😄

First up this year were the strawberries, we have 5 solid plants now and got about 7lbs of berries this year! Ate em plain, covered some with chocolate and made strawberry syrup to help feed my pancake addiction. We also love to give away the "runners/cuttings" to friends as gifts once we have them stabilized in small pots (One of my friends planted his straight into the ground 2 years ago and now his backyard is absolutely covered 😆)

Our #chives and #mint have again proven themselves to be hearty and productive year after year!

The local trails are absolutely covered in the spring and summer with more berries than the wildlife and humans can eat as well! I invite my friends over for hikes at this time of year to collect pounds of berries in less than an hour. My dog loves the extra walks and attention as well 😊

We also grow grapes in our backyard which have really done well this year

Trying #corn for the 1st time this year and it has gone quite nicely! Our friend gave us 6 baby plants and they are all producing at least 1 ear with minimal upkeep, hopefully, we'll turn this year's harvest into a much larger haul next year 😄

Finally, we always love to plant sunflowers to feed the local wildlife, along with ourselves, and enjoy their beauty! They naturally fit into our understanding of the Fibonacci sequence and are truly amazing to watch from start to finish.

Thank you so much Sarah! I truly love taking photos of them, they are so easy to grow too 🥳 As long as you keep your strawberries in deep pots or the ground they will over winter. Saves us money on them for a month or so 😉

Wow, the land seems so fertile to grow beautiful and healthy crops. Thanks for sharing it with us; it's like we also travelled to #Maryland 😍

Thank you for the kind words! It is a really lovely place to live if you like variety, we get all the seasons here 😃

What JOY!!! I can't believe you ahve so many berries in the woods - I marvel at the biodiversity in your country! We poison any 'foreign' plants here....

Just about to plant sunflower seeds here in Australia !

Thank you, I feel really lucky to be here in Maryland with such variety in the seasons 😃 In general, there are a bunch of plants that can be considered invasive but the rules can vary wildly from state to state. At this point it would be so hard to get rid of the wild berries in this area, the birds and other animals distribute the seeds everywhere 🤓 I just love being able to walk the dog and grab fruit for the day all in one shot. My wife hates that I use the dog poo bags for the fruit 😂 But....plastic bags are just plastic bags hehehe

I always envy those that were able to plant strawberries, I really wanted to plant strawberries but my location does not allow strawberries to thrive.

O no! That is unfortunate, where do you live? You may be able to grow them inside possibly but they will need manual pollination 🙏🤓

I am actually from the Philippines (^_^)

I would love to visit the Philippines, I always see such beautiful photos of your country 😍

THe Philippines is indeed very beautiful, there are famous places like Palawan, Cebu, Boracay, and many more. Hope you can visit our country soon!

You have a busy and healthy garden. I see lots of berries! How delightful! Those close up photos of the sunflower are pretty too.
