Two days back I shared my joy of harvesting 2 papayas from our home garden. Today a sad thing happened. The papaya tree broke by itself and fell down. It wasn't able to balance the weight of the fruits that were growing.
My mother was expecting this to happen ans she asked me to tie it to give a support. I did not take action immediately and thought it will survive till next weekend as we already removed two fruits and reduced the weight a little bit. But unfortunately today I heard a noise and I rushed to see what happened and found out this.
It is a good lesson. The trunk of papaya tree is hollow and fragile. It can be easily broken even by a kid or it can be cut without any equipments. So it is important to take care of the plant especially if it is growing with inclination.
It was indeed sad to see the tree fall down after bearing just 2 fruits for us. The remaining fruits that were growing was extracted by my mother and we are going to be cooking it as a vegetable tomorrow or day after probably.
The leaves of papaya are also very good in increasing the platelets in our blood. People make a soup with that leaf and drink it. I have not tried that personally but o know people doing that.
I have asked my mother to keep the seeds of the papaya safe so that we can plant and try our luck. But usually the plants that grow by itself are the ones that are very healthy. The ones that we plant intentionally have only 50 percent chance for being a good fruit bearing tree. Let's see how it goes.
