Hey there, fellow summer warriors! As the mercury rises and the sun beats down relentlessly, I've been on a quest to conquer the scorching heat and keep cool vibes flowing all season long. Here's a peek into my summer survival playbook since our community challenge for this week pertains to how each of us beats the summer heat. Let me share to you some ways on how I keep my cool during this scorching summer heat.
We already reached the danger level. We now experienced 44 degrees Celsius in the heat index here in our city since yesterday and today. I just hope it won't go high up. It's so funny how a lot of people now are making Tik Tok videos of them cooking eggs, frying fish, frying hotdogs, sausages and other frozen food bringing their woks with them to the streets outside their houses. So funny, makes me think if it's real or not!! Well, I guess there's one thing to know for sure if it's true, I probably would try it too! 😂 😂 Let's see if it works, no worries If ever I will try it I will definitely share it with you.

🌻Rain Shower Revelations🌻
Let's start with the basics – nothing beats the refreshing bliss of a cool shower. With the help of our trusty rain shower, I've been indulging in not one, not two, but three invigorating showers a day. It's a simple yet oh-so-satisfying way to hit the reset button and wash away the heat-induced woes. I've got a story to tell, I told hubby that I wish to have that rain shower head, you know the one's you see in magazines. When we went to the hardware shop, oh man! They are really pricey ranging from $100 - $400! What the?! Haha.... So hubby said I don't want to buy that fancy kind of rain shower so we looked for a different kind it's still has that rainshower effect but not that pricey. Actually it was relatively cheap around $8! Haha. We saved a lot. Good thing I have a plumber hubby. I am really loving it!
🌻Air-Conditioned Oasis🌻
A true lifesaver in the summer heat, our air conditioning system has been working overtime to keep our bedrooms and living spaces gloriously chill. Whether it's cozying up for a midday siesta or lounging in the evening breeze, having that cool escape indoors has been an absolute game-changer. I am truly grateful that our bedrooms and our living space has airconditioning. Such a treat that even our dog, Nikki and our cat Luna doesn't go out during the day, the stay indoors because it's cooler than the temperatures outside. Of course we have our trust worthy electric fan as well. Who has served us over the years still up and running doing its best to keep his masters cool.😍😄
🌻Sweet Treat Discoveries🌻
What's summer without indulging in some delectable cool treats? Recently, I stumbled upon the divine delight of avocado ice cream – a creamy, dreamy escape from the heat that's become a household favorite, especially for my hubby. It's amazing how a simple scoop can transport you to a frosty paradise. Earlier today, I went down town to pay our water bill then after paying I headed to the nearest Duty Free shop, the Royal Duty Free. Just bought some groceries and you know where I indulged after getting things for the house?! Of course the ice cream section! I scream for ice cream!😍
We have our favorite, the Korean ice cream called Melona, they are ice cream on stick it has many delectable flavors like banana, mangoes, strawberry, purple yam, honeydew, coconut. I love them all!
Then there's the Haagen-daz ice cream and many other international brands because it's a duty Free shop so the store caters to many nationalities. I went to our favorite, selecta avocado with cashews! This is our local filipino brand, well, you know you have to love your own!
I bought my favorite, the samanco strawberry sandwich ice cream. It's like eating an ice cream cake. While driving I was devouring this divine treat.
Of course I wouldn't come home empty handed, I bought the avocado ice cream for my better-half and of course for the two of us! Haha, even if I've eaten my strawberry sandwich already! Shhhhh, it's just our little secret, okay?!😁😄
Well, he deserved it because he was busy fabricating additional scaffolds for our rental business. His workshop doesn't have AC just his industrial fan and it was almost lunch time so the sun was really high up already. Even going to and fro our house to his workshop was already super hot, painful already on the skin.
You see how happy my hubby is, look at that smile!😍 We devoured the 1.3L ice cream, just the two of us!haha! It was Mr. Sun who made us do it! He made us eat everything in just one gulp! see no left overs!😁
Ahhhh! Really cooled us down!
🌻Highland Hideaways🌻
Seeking refuge from the sweltering city, hubby and I embarked on a holy week getaway to the picturesque highlands of Baguio. We learned that the temperatures was rising to 42 degrees Celsius during the holy week, so hubby and I decided that we will be the one who will go up the highlands and visit our son. I so love Baguio city, they have unlimited AC just about anywhere and everywhere you go most specially the places higher up like the Northern Blossom flower farm in Atok, Benguet. I've learned that they experienced hail just last January, marble sized hail! Wow!
We had our own first hand experience with the see of clouds. It was really captivating and so amazing to behold. The coolness of the place just makes me wish that if only we have a fourth of their weather down the lowlands.
Amidst the serene landscapes and crisp mountain air, we found solace from the blistering heat and embraced moments of tranquility and togetherness.

🌻Halo-Halo Happiness🌻
What better way to beat the heat than with a timeless Filipino classic – halo-halo! Sharing this iconic icy delight with family friends was not only a delicious treat for the taste buds but also a heartwarming reminder of the joys of summer gatherings and shared memories. Last week our friends invited us over their house, they are both semi-retirees like us. They don't have kids of their own so every now and then both our families would invite each other for lunches or dinners or sometimes for snacks just like this one.
If your wondering what a halo-halo is, well the word halo means mix so it's literally translated as mix-mix.
The most commonly-used ingredients include syrup-packed beans (a combo of chickpeas, red beans, and white beans), nata de coco (coconut gel), macapuno strings (coconut sport), sweet jackfruit, tapioca pearls, and colorful jellies mix it together with the ice shavings then top it with ice cream and caramel flan.
🌻Coastal Cool-Offs🌻
Just this past weekend, we ventured to the shores of La Union for a refreshing dip in the late afternoon waves. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we soaked in the salty sea breeze and reveled in the cool embrace of the ocean – a fitting finale to our summer escapades. My son was really enjoying the ocean.
So there you have it – my summer beat, filled with showers, sweet treats, cool escapes, and cherished moments with loved ones.
