What do you use when you eat?
Do you use a spoon? A fork? Or maybe both? Or do you use chopsticks?
Here in the Philippines we use our hands. This is not being sarcastic because literally there are certain foods that we can eat with just using our bare hands. We call it in our dialect as kinamot style of eating.
When we went to Baybay City, we decided to have our very late lunch at The Barbecuehan sa Boardwalk located at the new reclamation area.
I already shared about this place in my previous blog, but we only checked out the place without having to dine in there. We did not experience the alfresco dining with a beautiful view of the mountains and the sea. But this time we're here for the food.
At the center of the structure is the dining area and on the sides are food stalls selling generally barbecue as the name of this place implies. There are also other food dishes being sold. So if you are not into eating barbecue, there is a range of other choices.
It was around 3 o'clock pm, so, most of the tables were empty.
We were starving already so we ordered some barbecues enough to satisfy our hungry stomach. Barbecue options were chicken, pork and longganisa.
We chose chicken barbecue and longganisa.
And of course, we could not consider a meal without rice. A barbecue meal goes perfectly with puso. Puso is rice packed inside weaved coconut leaves before it is being cooked. Puso rice is also perfect for people on the go because you can just carry them without the need to place them inside food containers. You can also easily dispose of its coconut leaves wrapper without harming the environment.
And to spice up this simple barbecue meal, is the sawsawan. A sawsawan is usually a mix of soy sauce, vinegar and calamansi. The mixture is according to your liking since you'll be the one to put together the ingredients of the sawsawan. You can also add chili if you want it spicy and hot. This will add more flavor to the barbecue.

When I was about to eat, I asked for the spoon and fork but instead the husband handed me a plastic to wrap my hand as to not make it messy with all the food residues. That was because we would be eating this food kinamot style (or using only our bare hands).
How is kinamot style being done?
Pile a small amount of food on the plate and then wrap it around with your fingertips and pick it up. Put it directly to your mouth by pushing the food inward using your thumb.
And that's the classy way of eating kinamot style. 🙅 With kinamot style, it's guaranteed you'll satisfy your hunger quick and easy especially with fried or grilled foods.
The barbecue was good. My husband approved of it and of course I did too. The soft wind blowing from the surrounding was so refreshing too. Overall it was a great experience dining at Baybay City's Barbecuehan sa Boardwalk.
