Budol Fight

Today’s date is May 9, that means Mother’s day is coming on May 12. I took these photos and posted on our Facebook page Butuan Alliance Fellowship. I’m sharing these here because the date today reminds me last year when we celebrated Mother’s Day at the church. On that day, the church gave tribute to mothers by preparing a feast we call here “Budol fight.” Budol fight is when the foods are served in the table at the banana leaves. Everyone that eats won’t need to use plate, spoon and fork but with barehands. Foods that usually served here in the Philippines are fruits and seafoods. In this preparation, they serve watermelon, oysters, shrimps, fried fish, fried chicken, steamed green leafy vegetables and lumpia. Lumpia is a food in which the ground meat and vegetables are stuffed at flour wrapper, roll it and fry.

Before lunch, the mothers were called to stand up in front. My nephew and my little sister gave a rose to our mom. All of the mothers were given flowers of their kids as a tribute. In the picture is my little sister hugging my mom. At the left side are my nephew and sister-in-law.

Life is Fair

After the program was a picture taking. So far, this is a good picture for me that I took because the young lady in the middle is a working student. She has no parents, but luckily, the church gave her a scholarship. Not everybody is blessed of parents, but even if she grew up without them, she is always happy. She’s always grateful with big and small blessings.

Often, we think that life isn’t fair. While we are poor, others are rich. While we have a complete family, some of us have a dysfunctional home. Some of us don’t have parents. Some of us were thrown away when we were babies. But, if life is perfect, will there be a challenge? Will the world isn’t boring? Will there be a satisfaction? Will the people hear His call?

Afterall, it’s wrong to think that life is unfair because we don’t know of each person’s struggle. The young lady in the middle seems so happy but if I didn’t reveal her slight background, what would be your first impression?

The two women beside her looks like they don’t have problems, but they are a single mom too. The woman at the right side is a teacher but a widow for several years. She smiles but she hides her pain inside as her husband passed away, plus, she has an aged mom who stays at the hospital.

Life is fair because everyone has a struggle. Billionaires can get what they want, but some of their diseases cannot be treated by money. They can’t buy life. We may think that they lived with beer and skittles, but there is no thing such a perfect life. The weight of our baggages depends on how much we can carry. So, instead of complaining, remember that you’re not alone.
