Last Sunday was not like any other. It was the day to honor our fathers. The day to thank them for everything they've done as the family's pillar, provider, and protector.
On June 19, 2022, we all celebrated Father's Day together. I am thankful and blessed to have both of my parents until I am old. Not everyone was fortunate to have a complete family. Some children never see their father while they are still infants or, in the worst case scenario, are not even born.
We began our Sunday by attending a morning mass at the church. We all got up early to make it to the second mass in the morning, and thankfully, we weren't late.
After the mass, we went home right away because I needed to deliver this special set of bento cake + Kulafo to my father's brother.
My father was completely unaware that he also have his own cake when this was happening. We never told him not until we ate our lunch.
Uncle Christopher, my father's eldest brother, is pictured with his wife. My father is the middle or second child of three siblings. We went to their house in Liloan to deliver the special bento cake set, which had been ordered by my auntie, my father's closest cousin. I know, family trees can be complicated at times. It's also difficult for me to remember and trace ours as well. 😂
My father's face is beaming as he delivers the box of cake because he already knows what's inside, and I know he's excited for his brother. I have a feeling he's wondering if I'll give him his. 😂
We stopped on the way home to get some chicken wings for lunch and some intestines for Adobo. He was also the chef that day. Doesn't feel like Father's Day, does it? 😂
So when we got home, my mother was too busy baking a chiffon cake for one of our neighbors. My father was too busy cooking at the time, while I was preparing the surprise.
When he was just getting the food for lunch, I hurriedly took the cake and his favorite drink from the refrigerator.
We all greeted my father that day. I took a video of him during the surprise and while looking at the cake to send it to my auntie.
I suppose the surprise went well. He laughed hard that time because he truly believed he didn't have anything for him. Though he dislikes chocolate cake, I was the one who ate some of it, but we cooked spaghetti that day and shared it with my relatives at home. After that, I returned to the city for work.
That was a special father's day for me and my family. I hope you all had a wonderful time bonding with your fathers as well!
