Hope that never goes out: a lesson from a child who fishes alone

Hi Hive Lovers

This weekend off, I visited a white sand beach, which is usually always crowded with visitors.

But today was a bit different; the weather was very hot, making the visitors not too busy and dominated by children. It seems that the fun of swimming and playing in the sand has made the children forget about the scorching sun.

One thing that caught my attention the most was the existence of a little boy who was fishing alone on the rocks at the end of the beach. He had been there before me, and I had arrived at the beach two hours ago.

The weather report for the countries in #Asean that has been issued by SEA Today says that the temperature is getting hotter at 33°C–45°C (taken from Straits Times). Really feels hot for the area of tropical countries.

and it's almost noon, but the boy still persists in fishing on the rocks on the beach. His presence makes me even more curious - I'm as a semi-professional fisherman, and the sight of a little boy fishing alone is a huge magnet for my fishing soul.

I really approached the boy. He looks more eager to cast fishing bait. I greeted him and asked if he had managed to catch the fish. It turned out that he had not managed to catch any fish at all.

He holds his fishing rod with confidence every time he casts it. He did not wear shoes or hats at all to protect his head from the scorching sun this afternoon.

I wasn't really surprised when he said he had been there five hours ago and hadn't caught a single fish. As someone who loves fishing, I can understand his feelings. I have also experienced the same thing as he did this time.

But what really surprised me was when he said he didn't want to go home yet and would stay there until the bait was used up.

That is the passion and tenacity of a true angler. I'm sure that one day, when this boy grows up, he will become a professional fisherman.

All it takes to become a true fisherman is undying optimism. There's always hope down there and one just needs to work to get something.

I didn't want to stay there long; the sun had made the skin on my hands sore, and I had to go back to the hut where I took shelter to enjoy my visit to the beach this time.

I managed to learn a valuable lesson from this boy, who was fishing alone. Hopefully, he gets his fish soon.
