ChairWoman Meow recently faced her river fears by joining me on a boulder hopping trip near the rapids at our home here in the Cardamom Mountains.
😼 First, A Soul Snack 🦎
I am still sorting through unshared images from my several months blog hiatus. and these pics of ChairWoman Meow happen to be from late April. She happens to be pregant at the moment, about to burst, and yet in these images I am reminded she was just a kitty not long ago. We are a vegan house, so other than boiled corn and the odd potato chip, ChairWoman Meow has always been a feral self-feeder, and before our river trap she casually snagged a lizard and ate it while I was putting on my shoes.
🌊 Unfamiliar Territory 🪨
I've taken Miss Meow at least three or four times already to the river for exploring and fish watching, but it is not a place of comfort for her. She has shown a love for eating fish, but near our house there are only crickets, mantises, butterflies, lizards, geckos, mice, and rats to eat. This is probably a healthy diet already, and Meow Cat is a supreme hunter of these creatures, but I've always hoped she would show some interest in catching fish.
At the river MeeMao Kitters ranges from pensive to nervous, but she still hasn't become comfortable enough to gaze past the water's reflection and see her favorite food swimming around in a few centimeters of clear water. I'm sure if she saw someone release some minnows into a small pool it would trigger the connection between fish and water, possibly spurring a desire to begin fishing.
🐆 Backyard NatGeo 🐅
My wife came a few minutes after and also got in on the photography action, making things feel very National Geographic-ish. I tried to get some close-up shots of MeowMix's various emotions during this impromptu photo shoot. Meow was a willing Cambodian feral tabby model, and she would ultimately decide when enough time had been spent among the water.
With three precisely calculated leaps and bounds, she was back on the rock stairs and staring at us impatiently. Her eyes let me know it was time to escort Supreme Leader ChairWoman Meow back to her proletariat headquarters, aka home. It is still hard to believe I have become a cat lover at 41 years old despite being a dog person my whole life.
Since Meow Cat entered my life I have become fascinated with cat psychology and behavior, so basically see her as my little lioness. Watching her hunt down a lizard in a wood pile is far more fun than any online NatGeo nature footage. When ChairWowoman has her babies, of course I will be sharing them here with you all. I guess that's all for now folks, I'm still trying to get back in the flow with my writing, so bear with me.
