Hello everyone. How are you today? I hope all is well with you and your family. There is a kind of vegetable in the longan orchard. This vegetable has many nutritional values. This vegetable is Ceylon Spinach or Basella alba. About 8 years ago, at that time the longan trees in the longan orchard were not yet tall and large. My wife and I grow this vegetable in our longan orchard. And it can be food for our family many years. Even though the longan trees are now much taller and larger. Make the number of Ceylon Spinach less now. But it is also a vegetable that my wife likes to harvest for cooking. Ceylon Spinach is a vegetable that we do not take care it. It is a vegetable that grows naturally. And in this post, I will take everyone to see the food that contains the ingredients of this vegetable, which my wife cooked. My wife also harvests bird's eye chillies from the longan orchard.
Then I will take everyone to kitchen at my home to see my wife cook two dishes. Both dishes had Ceylon Spinach is an ingredient too. This vegetable can be fried or boiled, It's delicious.
First dish : Stir-fried mixed vegetables with shrimp and pork. There is an ingredient :
- shrimp
- pork
- pork meatballs
- Ceylon Spinach
- yardlong beans
- broccoli
- carrot
- pork flavour seasoning powder
- oyster sauce
- oil
- garlic
First cut all the vegetables, shrimp, pork and pork meatballs.
Put the pan on the stove and heat the oil and add garlic. Then add the shrimp in the pan and stir-fry until the shrimp are cooked. When the shrimp are cooked, put them in a container.
Then add the pork and pork meatballs to the pan and stir-fry them until cooked.
Add all the vegetables in the pan and stir-fry them.
Stir-fry all the vegetables in the pan for about 10 minutes until them start to soften. Then put the shrimp in the pan again.
Add a little water in the pan, season with oyster sauce and pork flavour seasoning powder. Stir-fry until the all vegetables are cooked and turn off the stove.

Second dish : Northern Thai style local soup with Ceylon Spinach and pork. This local soup has shrimp paste and has a sour taste.

- Ceylon Spinach
- pork
- shrimp paste
- tamarind sauce
- water
- pork flavour seasoning powder
First put the pot on the stove. Put water in the pot and boil the water. Then add shrimp paste and pork flavour seasoning powder to the pot to make soup.
When the water boils for a while, put the pork in the pot. And boil until the pork is cooked.
Then add the Ceylon Spinach to the pot and boil.
Boil for about 5 minutes until the Ceylon Spinach start to soften. Then add the tamarind sauce in the pot and stir. (adds a sour taste to the soup).
Boil for about 5 - 8 minutes until the Ceylon Spinach are cooked. Turn off the stove.
