The North East Monsoon has been quite devastating. It usually lasts from November to March. This time, it has been different. This time, floods in other parts of Sarawak were up to a story tall.
The rainfall was heavy and the drains started filling up.
A YouTube video of some of the areas in Sarawak that have been badly hit by the floods. Lots of people needed evacuation.
In Bintulu, the flood hit the hardest and many of the houses there were almost a story high in flood waters and had to be evacuated.
I was driving out of my house and started noticing how heavy the rain got.
I stay in Miri and most of the areas here in Miri weren't hit that badly.
My car plate came off driving in the flood waters
A lot of people lost their number plate too.
Some pictures of some of Miri's flood waters
I drove on it and it was quite dangerous. You could not tell the drain from the actual road. The next thing is the worry of the car suddenly stalling.
The pickup trucks were able to cross these roads more easily.
I went out to the temple and prayed.
This is one of the most beautiful temples here in Miri and it is well-maintained with a beautiful dragon flying around the temple.
The floor was wet but the roads outside the main street area were somewhere near here were flooded. It was quite scary driving along these roads.
The view o the neighbour
Got home in time to see the whole road outside my house filled with water. The drains were all full of water.
The street was flooded. My wife and my niece were at home so I took a photo of them for memory.
Luckily, the water did not enter the house. Some parts of Miri were badly affected and the water went into the houses. There is a large drainage system underground that cleared out a lot of the water in time just outside the main road of my house.
The grandmother was having fun. Walking around in the water.
There is a hill somewhere in town and landslide occurred due to the huge amount of rain washing off the sand claiming some of lives. People living there with their houses built on the hills. The whole house slid off.
The view from the second floor of my house.
At this point of time, most of Sarawak has recovered from the flood. It is still raining a lot recently. But not as heavy. That week when the rain was heavy, it was quite scary. Always fearing for the foods.
Have a great day.
