Why? Why did I need to get an HPV vaccine? After that, I did not feel quite well for close to a week with some minor side effects like getting flu and lethargy in my body. First of all, it was free and given by the Sarawak government and it was to prevent me from getting the
Human papillomavirus (HPV) -
a type of virus where when a person gets it, there is a likelihood for it to develop into cancer. This was a two-and-a-half-hour wait to get the vaccine. My phone's battery almost went flat.
I went to UTC Miri here.
This was where the line all started and it grew longer and longer.
UTC is the Urban Transformation center of Malaysia where many of the government offices are all gathered into one place to make it convenient for the residents of Miri to come to to deal with government services.
I was there at around 1 p.m. There was already a long line. Everyone was there to get their HPV vaccine shot.
I did not know that I was going to be there for around 2 hours and a half. There were a lot of people. A lot of people.
The hallway was crowded.
This was the ultimate test of my patience and willpower. At this point in time, I was there for more than one hour.
Some people who came after me and noticed the long line did not want to stay and went back.
2 p.m.
There was a vending machine halfway along the halls where I was queueing and business was awesome. I guess, the owner of the vending machine must have been laughing all the way.
That is a lot of stuff ordered from the vending machine. The cans could have been recycled.
After about 2 and a half hours and my phone's battery being 10% left, it was almost time for me to get the vaccine shot.
I felt like a waiting Olympic champion. I was finally here going to get my vaccination shot.
I turned back and snapped a photo of how many people were still behind me and there was still a lot. The time that this centre stopped vaccination for the day was 4 p.m. After a while, I checked a Facebook post where some people had waited for a couple of hours and not been able to get their vaccination shot and got really angry.
Got the HPV vaccine and it was time to go. Finally.
