Greetings to you my dear hivers! Are you all well?
Today I will be sharing with you how we surprised my mom for her 50th birthday. Some photos were also used by @nening.
I went shopping for her birthday decorations every time she went to work. She doesn't have the slightest idea since she knows that we know she doesn't like being surprised. We would ask her what to do on her birthday and she'd just answer that she wanted to eat out with us, and she already had a plan on where.
We decided to surprise her at my grandpa's place the day before her birthday, so she could do whatever she wanted on her special day. On the day of the surprise, I asked permission to go to my grandfather's house since I have been teaching my aunts how to use HIVE every Saturday and, luckily, it was also a Saturday, so I used that excuse to go out and brought my brother with me. She did not suspect anything.
We did not talk at home about the surprise, we just texted each other, my dad and brother, and we acted like nothing. My dad even said to my mom that he wanted to treat her to a date.
As soon as we arrived at my grandfather's house, my aunts and uncles were already there, so we started making the decorations right away. We pumped the balloons I bought and tied them up. We went for a gold and white theme because she had reached the golden age of 50.
My uncle wanted to give mom 50 pieces of the 50 peso bill. We decided some of it would hang together with the balloons.
And we rolled some and put on the bouquet that her sister bought for her.
My mom doesn't like the idea of being surprised. She would always say she doesn't like it and that she only likes to eat out with family. A surprise celebration is not her thing. But we thought of surprising her just for this time.
She has never tried it for 50 years and we want her to try it. I got the feeling that she doesn't really want it but also wants to try it, but mom is shy. She doesn't like it when everybody's attention is on her.
After we finished decorating, the food we ordered arrived. We ordered grilled pork and fish, calamares, buttered shrimp, and, of course, the never-absent pancit. We waited for another hour so we could tell mom to come here. We talked about how we would tell her to come without suspecting anything.
A great coincidence since one of my aunt's places is having a fiesta that same day and mom knew it but she did not know if they'd celebrate, so we went for that excuse. Like I texted her, "Mom, Aunt Nica wanted us to have dinner at her house since it's fiesta there. They have prepared food and we are going with Aunt Maly," my dad would say, "Okay, but first, let's go to my dad's place (my grandfather's), I'll return the tools I borrowed."
She then said "okay" and my dad said they were coming. We waited for them. We kept looking out the window above to see if it was them. As they arrived, we lighted the candle and we heard the knock. My aunt opened the door and.. surprise!!
As she got in, my brother handed the bouquet to her and I made her blow the candle on her cake. She smiled and did not talk, she just looked at us. I almost cried looking at her as she had teary eyes already but did not want to cry. She was speechless. She did not really talk, like really not. She just looked at us, still not sinking in what was happening. We kept joking around, so she would laugh.
We began eating while my mother remained motionless, she just sat in her chair, we talked to her, and she just smiled. I worried she was upset, but after a while, she began talking with my grandmother, saying she couldn't believe it.
We asked her to slice her cake. Mom doesn't have that friendly look, so we always have to joke around, so she would smile with those dimples to get this kind of shot.
Happy 50th birthday to my one and only super mom. You don't look 50 at all. You look younger than your age, mom❤.
