Today's weather was great for gardening. It wasn’t too hot or too cold, and unlike the heavy rain yesterday, it only drizzled a little today. Most of the time, it didn’t rain at all. However, when I got home, I discovered Kokot (my dog) had a new wound the size of two fingers, and it was filled with wriggling maggots eating away at his flesh. This wound wasn’t there two days ago. Two days ago, I applied medicine to his back and cheek, and those areas have started healing because there are no more maggots. But I was shocked to see this new wound and the sheer number of maggots in it.
As soon as I got back from work, I treated Kokot right away. It took me a while to coax him out from under the car because he hid as soon as he saw me, fearing I’d treat his wound. He was clearly uncomfortable. I’m grateful I was able to treat him today. The medicine worked well, and the maggots began coming out of the wound and dying. This will take several rounds of treatment today and tomorrow. I really don’t understand this dog sometimes. If Kokot didn’t act aggressive towards me when I treat him, maybe he would heal faster. Kokot isn’t too aggressive, but I’m the one who’s scared to handle him. I’m afraid I might touch his sore spots. That’s when he gets aggressive. Anyways, I hope all the maggots will be gone soon and Kokot’s wound will heal.
After tending to Kokot, my oldest dog, I spent time harvesting crops from our garden. Every day, we have a steady supply of ripe papayas, so we enjoy fresh papaya daily. I hope this boosts our immune systems and keeps the kids healthy. I also picked calamansi limes today, quite a lot, actually. If only they were sweet, I’d eat them all in one go! Since they’re sour, we usually mix them with chili. It’s a quick and tasty snack that whets our appetite, especially when paired with fried fish, haha. Our green spinach and cilantro are also growing well. These were today’s harvests, and we’re grateful that our garden continues to provide for us.
In the evening, I repaired our washing machine. I’m not an expert, but I managed to fix it enough to keep it working. The problem is a hose at the back that keeps coming loose. When it disconnects, the machine can’t wash. I reattached it to a narrow nozzle at the back. This weekend, depending on the budget, I might take the washing machine or the trimmer (or both) for proper repair. Both are essential for our daily routines.
As for water, our treated water supply has been out for three days now, likely due to an issue at the water treatment plant. Thankfully, we have gravity water. In the past, we would go to my dad’s house for water during outages since they have gravity water. Now we have our own gravity water, which provides water almost all the time, and it’s free. We’re truly thankful for that!
