Greetings Fellow Hivers! I´m back and this is my first post after my hiatus from this beloved Community. Repairing Spanish roof tiles can be both a challenging and rewarding task, regardless of gender. As a woman taking on this project, I approach it with determination and skill which I have learned from my father who had been in the construction industry. My skill in this domain has been honed through hands-on experience, including the tiling of a Moroccan terrace adorned with intricate blue and white tiles.
When I arrived in Spain during the last week of February, the weather greeted me with intense heat reminiscent of a scorching summer day. However, as March unfolded, the atmosphere took a turn for the worse, subjecting us to relentless gusts of wind. Throughout the month, the wind battered my home, resulting in the unfortunate damage of approximately fourteen of the distinctive blue and white "Tejas" tiles adorning my roof.
Nestled high in the mountains, our home sits upon a platform vulnerable to the forceful winds that sweep through the area. With no towering trees to provide shelter, and the surrounding hills offering little protection, our location is particularly exposed to the elements.
Following the storm, I conducted a thorough inspection of the roof and the tiles, revealing that approximately fourteen pieces of the Tejas were either disarrayed or broken. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, I promptly contacted the construction company specializing in these unique tiles, knowing they were not readily available elsewhere. Despite the urgency, it took five days for the tiles to arrive after placing my order.
I also placed an order for a special type of cement glue designed specifically for tiles. This ready-made cement simplifies the process as it only requires the addition of water before use.
Prior to commencing the project, I meticulously removed the broken pieces and diligently cleared the roof of any debris. Despite the height of the roof, I moved with caution, taking advantage of the mild weather and absence of wind to ensure my safety.
I carefully applied an even layer of cement glue to the underside of each replacement tile, ensuring thorough coverage. I positioned each tile in place, using gentle taps to secure them firmly. Tile after tile, I carefully aligned them until they formed a seamless line, guaranteeing a secure and uniform finish.
This is the extension roof of the dining area which we also decorated with the blue and white "Tejas".
The sun-drenched roof terrace offers a delightful vantage point to marvel at the azure hues of the Mediterranean Sea. Situated at an altitude of approximately 300-350 meters above sea level with a 360° view, our area provides a picturesque setting overlooking the captivating beauty of the coastal waters.
