Last week I brought my son Jonathan who is autistic for a follow-up visit at the Sarawak General Hospital. When I arrived at the clinic, I was surprised that there were no other patients. I gave the appointment card to the nurse. Upon checking, the nurse informed me that the day was not a clinic day and that they are not seeing patients. She told me that I got the date wrong. Sure enough, I realized that I got my dates mixed up and I came on a wrong day.
The nurse consulted with her colleagues. Later she informed me that there was a doctor in the clinic and that she would make arrangements for the doctor to see my son.
I am very grateful to the nurses and doctor for attending to my son although I had made a mistake and gone to the clinic on a wrong day. This will save me the hassle of coming back another day. Bringing Jonathan to the hospital can be quite stressful. He is hyperactive and will walk up and down in the waiting room. In a way, he is a disturbance to other patients. I like to thank the nurses and the doctor for their kind understanding and kindness.
We should all try to be kind and show kindness whenever we can because you never know what impact your act of kindness will have. A little kindness can go a long way!
I like to end my post with a poem that I have written entitled “A Moment Of Kindness”.
A Moment Of Kindness
We are all on this journey together,
With so many different paths we must take.
Though our journeys may be different,
We should always help one another.
For when someone is feeling sad or lonely,
We can lift them up with a small act of kindness.
And when someone is going through tough times,
We can show them that they are not alone.
Because when we show kindness to others,
Our lives become more meaningful and we become happier.
Although we ourselves may struggle,
We can still reach out to others,
Because sometimes all it takes is just a moment.
When one person smiles at another,
Even if they're strangers,
That's a moment of kindness.
When one person remembers to hold the door,
Even though they're in a rush,
That's a moment of kindness.
When one person gives up their seat on the bus,
Even if they are tired,
That's a moment of kindness.
May these moments of kindness,
Spread all around us,
Making a difference for all
