When was the last time you felt like you had snagged a real bargain?
Bargains are one of those things we just can't resist. They're so seductive—they promise savings, and they make us feel smart and savvy as if we've beaten the system. Plus, who doesn't love to shop for bargains?
But sometimes it turns out that the bargain isn't really a bargain at all. How many times have you bought something because it was on sale, only to get home and realize that it wasn't what you wanted or needed? Or maybe you bought an item in order to save money, only to discover that it's not as good quality as something more expensive would have been? In some cases, shops may mark up the prices of items on sale, before slashing the price. The actual discount that you are getting may actually be much less than the advertised discount.
I am a foodie and so the bargain that I am writing about is actually about food. A few days ago, we were walking along the street, discussing where to take our lunch. A big poster caught our attention.
The words "Super Sale" and "Limited Time Only" enticed us to have lunch at Whole Fried Chicken. A whole chicken at only Malaysian Ringgit 19.90 (less than USD 5) is an irresistible bargain.
The front of the shop looks nice and inviting, so why not give it a try.
At the service counter, we ordered the whole fried chicken which was on sale.
The interior of the restaurant was nicely done. At the left, I could see flowers with congratulatory messages and so I guessed that the shop must still be quite new.
I must admit that I was surprised that there were not that many customers in the shop despite the special offer. That could have been a red flag.
Wow, thay have more than 7,000 stores worldwide. It is very impressive.

Here is the whole fried chicken that we ordered. If you look at my other posts regarding restaurants and food, you will notice that I don't normally give reviews. But in this case, the chicken was too saltly and we struggled to finish the chicken because we do not want to be wasteful.
If this company had a special offer in order to attract new customers, would it not make sense that the company will try to make the food as tasty as possible! In this case, the opposite has happened and I will not be returning any time soon.
Not only is the food bad, but the service is also bad. While we were having our food, we can hear the staff chatting and laughing loudly in the background. Something is wrong when the staff is making more noise than the customers. I suppose maybe the kitchen staff was having too much of a good time to take their jobs seriously.
So do be careful of bargains. Sometimes a bargain may turn out not to be a bargain after all.
