The Independence Day parade and exhibition in my town is the yearly events that many people, including me and my son, look forward to. It usually happens on August 18th or a day or two later. The parade is very colorful with lots of participants from our town (Negara) and the neighboring island of Java.
Yesterday was the parade day, so my son and I went to the main town street. There were already many people waiting for the parade to start. Since our main road was a bit narrow, we joined many others sitting by the side of the road to watch it unfold. It seemed the road was full of people.
A drum band from a local senior high school started the show. They played current popular music that made everyone clap and cheer. Next, there were misters and misses of the local town. You could also say they were the youth of the town dressed in beautiful traditional clothes.
The most interesting group came from East Java with unique costumes. It was like a fashion show with amazing outfits, some like robots, video game characters and others like anime characters. There depicted heroes and villains marching along the street.
After a while, the parade become less interesting. Most of them show the local tradition such as music and dances that we used to see every day. We did not wait until the parade finished, instead joined the people to go to the exhibition located nearby.
The exhibition showed how our town is growing or progressing. There are displays about farming, fishing, and local businesses such as, culinary, and fabrics home industries.
My son loved seeing plants and animals at the exhibition. He was excited about to see and to hold python snake. A girl who was in charge of the exhibition display, shared her snakes with visitors to hold and to take photo with.
My son held a blue python. This python, according to the girl, came from the island of Papua. There were also yellow pythons and regular ones for kids to touch too. Like what you probably think, some of the kids got scared of the snake. Some of them did not care, they just enjoyed taking photos with the pythons.
That was our little adventure during parade and exhibition on the Indonesian Independence Day. Thanks.
