Recently, I visited on of my customer which is the Kementerian Komunikasi Malaysia. I am one of the IT vendor that provided my company IT services there. The reason of my visit is to rectify an IT equipment issue that happen in the morning.
As is standard practice in many government buildings, I need to register at the security offices and then wait in the lobby for the customer to come down and fetch me. This is a routine process, but this time, there is something interesting waiting for me at the lobby.
At the lobby area were housed a small exhibition showcasing vintage radio and television equipment. As someone who loves exploring technology whether old or new, I couldn’t resist indulging myself while I waited.
The small exhibition featured an impressive array of items from different eras, including early radio transmitters, classic film projectors, and communication devices used decades ago.
Looking at the design of these items and compared it to today's gadgets & equipment, reminding me of how far technology has come. Seeing the old analog dials and wooden casings made me appreciate the work that goes into innovation, both then and now.
After spending some time admiring the old gadget, the customer arrived, and I was escorted to the server room. Eventhough I had a great time at the lobby, it was not the case in the server room.
The customer's SAN Storage controller was down and beyond repair. This also reminds me that no matter how advance the technology is, it still need human touch to maintain and guarantee their operations.
Note: RTM = Radio Televisyen Malaysia. I did'n know that the old Malay spelling for Telesvisyen was TALIVISHEN 🤣🤣
