I met one of my college friends last Friday to give her jelly cake order, eat lunch, and accompany her to buy gifts. This friend is also among my food buddies and the one who encouraged me to pursue doing jelly cake business.
Earlier this year, she sent me a message to order a jelly cake for her mother-in-law's 50th birthday. She didn't ask for a particular design, even giving me the freedom to do whatever design I think is good. She said she trusts me. Her only request was to use only pastel colors.
Here I began by filling the Happy Birthday lettering first before proceeding with decorating the flowers. I tried to get inspiration from sample photos she sent me for the color references.
After more than an hour of decorating, I am finally done! Good thing I used the mold with transparent bottom. I was then able to see some petals which weren't fully filled with the flower solution and got to fix it.
I thought of just using yellow pastel color for the background, same as the cake on the photo my friend sent me.
I unmolded it after five hours. The same night as when the other cake was picked up. I like how it turned out. However, I think I should have lessened the small flowers and added one more big flower instead.
I'm not used to pastel colors so seeing the cake's color feels off for me although somewhere in my mind also thinks that it looked nice. I was confused.
I also told my friend that I'll try to mimic the fading effect of colors on the photo she sent but I guess I failed to achieve that. My friend didn't pressure me to do it though.
And after making sure the cake is clean from gelatin crumbs, I immediately closed its container and wrapped it with ribbon. I also added a candle and a happy birthday topper. This cake is bigger than my last order, so I am using a bigger plastic bag.
Then I placed it back into the chiller. Now it's ready for tomorrow. I did finished everything that night so I'll have less things to think of the next day. My friend also told me that we'll meet in the morning. That's why it's best to have everything prepared the night before to avoid cramming as well.
I was exhausted that night, I couldn't even cook dinner. I ate my favorite noodles instead and rewarded myself with a cup of matcha latte of pan de manila. The matcha taste is also good.
Next day, we met at the mall we used to go to back in college. We were supposed to meet at Bo's Cafe but since I'm arriving first, I told her that I'll wait for her at the mall instead which she then agreed to. She arrived about ten minutes later. It was around two in the afternoon when we met.
We left the cake at the baggage area and did a bit of grocery. Her dog recently gave birth and she needed to buy some wet wipes. Meanwhile, I bought cotton buds and chips.
After doing a quick grocery, we went to Pizza Hut to eat our late lunch. My friend was too busy baking cakes until lunch time and still hadn't eaten. We were choosing between Pizza Hut and Greenwich, but told her Pizza Hut's pizza is better.
We ordered their set A meal which comes with two servings of chicken, pasta, and drinks, and a pan of pizza. I believe the pizza was eight inches.
The chicken and pasta were served first and we were surprised of how cute the sizes were. We literally looked at each other after the server left and told my friend that the pasta serving is only about four twirls of fork. Lol.
While waiting for our KitKat Rolls, my friend got curious with my phone and tested its camera. So here we are with a selfie.
We began eating after as we can no longer wait for the KitKat Rolls because my friend was already hungry.
The KitKat Rolls was served as we were near to finish our meal. Actually, all the foods were delicious. The only downside was the serving size of the spaghetti and chicken.
It was already past three when we finished eating. We hurried up to the department store to look for a gift for my friend's mother-in-law. Oooppss!! That's me waiting at the fitting room.
After the seemingly endless search at the department store, we ended up buying at the stalls outside the department store. I forgot the exact name of these types of clothing but it was imported from Thailand. The fabric feels nice and I lowkey want to buy as well. The dresses costs between Php 500 to 650.
We also bought shirts. By this time, my friend's phone was already battery-dead so I lent my phone to take photos of the shirts and send it to her husband for approval. We then went to Watson's after to buy sunscreen because they're having the celebration at the beach.
And before leaving, my friend treated me with a mango shake. She said it's on her because she invited me to accompany her do her errands.
Here's the cake after it was claimed from the baggage counter. Hopefully, the gelatin hasn't melted since it's been out of the fridge for almost four hours already. I let my friend ride a bus first and sent a message to her husband as soon as she did.
When my friend uploaded photos of the celebration, I asked her of the cake's condition when she arrived home. I'm glad it withstood all those times it was carried on a bit slanted angle plus transportation. Seeing the cake I made as the center piece of their table filled with foods make me really elated. ♡
And that's how our day went. I'm glad that this friend who encouraged me to do this business is actually supporting me. I'm thankful for having supportive friends!
