The Most Challenging Grocery Day Ever!

in #hive-1413592 days ago

This month's grocery day was the most challenging ever! As much as I wanted to postpone it, I have no choice because there were bills to pay and I'm already running out of food to cook.

It's flu season due to the changing weather, many people are having cough and colds. Unfortunately, my immune system is weak and got infected with cough simply by a slight kiss on a baby's cheek. It's been almost three weeks since then but I'm still suffering with cough, although it has already subsided. I'm wishing it will go away before my birthday comes.

I went out late in the afternoon after contemplating so many times whether to go out and do groceries. I first settled the bills then went to the pharmacy. There were more people in the pharmacy which got me worried. I did my best not to cough while speaking to the pharmacist but wasn't able to hold it any longer while I was at the waiting area. The embarrassment when you suddenly cough with the sound of the phlegm! Lol. I immediately wore back my mask. Well, to be fair, a lot of people inside the mall were also coughing so I just kept my mask on the entire time.

The amount of crowd that afternoon was also surprising. The carts at the cart area gets wiped out fast. I immediately went for the goods that I think would easily get sold out and I was right. The chicken breast fillet was already sold out and I have no choice but to get the regular one.

I really have to make the grocery shopping quick because it was already getting late. However, the crowd at the cashier area was still the same when I got there. It's a bit quiet on this area and coughing without making loud noise was again a struggle. I can't remember how long it took me at the cashier area but it was already dark when I was done.

But before I went out of the mall, I saw a dirty ice cream (sorbetes) vendor and bought a cup worth Php 50. You know there's a belief here in the Philippines that ice cream cures cough. Lol. Just kidding. Of course, it was meant to be a joke. The vendor asked if I was alone. He probably saw me struggling pushing the cart.

When I got home, I immediately cooked a chicken soup meal. We call it Tinola. I chose to cook the dish because it has ginger on its ingredients and ginger is known to help sooth the throat and even help cure cough. It was really great to eat soup meals when you're sick. I felt better after eating it.

I also paired the meal with pineapple juice because it contains bromelain which helps breakdown mucus. I also bought lozanges in orange and honey lemon flavor.

All of these had helped somehow to lessen my cough but what I think really helps me recuperate faster is enough rest. And that's what I'll do until this cough goes away.

Anyway, I really wish I don't experience this again because going out is very difficult when you're suffering from cough. Wear your masks and keep distance from people infected by colds and cough.

Stay healthy!!

Hi there and hope your doing well. Yes indeed its challenging to you. Just take it slow. Having an errand and your not feeling well its so stressful. But what can we do, need to accomplish it. I feel you too.. So sad but we have responsibilities in life. Just take it slow. And next time if you cannot accomplish your errands its ok to pause for awhile. And don't hesitate to ask help for someone. Stay hydrated, vitamins and enough rest to recharge your body. Stay healthy always and health comes first.

One of the illnesses that I really don't want to have is cough. It's really uncomfortable. It always strikes whenever it's completely silent and there are many people around you hahaha. It's so embarrassing.
Wishing you a speedy recovery 🤗

You made it!
Why do I feel like it's a rewarding moment for you? lol. Maybe because when I get sick it's impossible for me to get up to get some water or pee. Haha! I hate cough so much it's annoying haha I can imagine how you try to stop it on crowded places. It's good to know that you're taking care of yourself 🙂 I wish you well, and get better soon.

Lol, I can totally relate to coughing in public. It's so challenging when you're trying to hold it in, but then, there's a sudden burst of coughing with phlegm. It's a traitor! 😩 But on a serious note, take care of yourself. I hope you feel better soon!

@straykat well in the Philippines it's an old joke to eat ice cream when having colds as it is a cure hahaha😅😅😅 keep safe always. Better to have a little ginger inside your mouth. If there's a ginger inside your mouth you will take a little bite of it to have the spicy feeling it will help you reduce coughing. If you hate ginger, try to buy mints or candies like snowbear, it will help you not to cough for the mean time🥰 I had tried it😅

Oh boy, that seems really like a difficult grocery day! Pushing through chores while still suffering from a cough must have been taxing. I also well understand the difficulty of trying not to cough in public; it seems like the longer you keep it in, the worse it is! At least you weren't alone; many others appear to be now suffering with the flu as well. With some rest and a nice meal from your shopping run, maybe you will completely recuperate before your birthday. Sending you good vibes and I hope you feel better the soonest!
