What’s north of Islington, and Finsbury Park, is a pretty old and heavily residential part of London. It’s got some of the best Victorian architecture in London too.

Walking up Crouch Hill can be a little tasking if your fitness levels aren’t up to scratch. Thankfully, I’m a walker, so I flew up the hill no problem. This hill actually peaks halfway through the road and then heads back down to Crouch End, after which, if going north, you’d have to climb up another hill.

At either end of Crouch Hill, trendy cafes and shops can been seen on the ground floor of some pretty vintage looking buildings. In the middle near the peak, are mainly residential homes - houses and flats alike. Some of those flats are probably worth more than some fully detached houses in other parts of the city.

The area is serviced by Crouch Hill on the London Overground network. There are other nearby stops on this network, as well as rail and tube options. Busses too, of course, as is the case everywhere in London.

The coolest bar/cafe I saw around there was called “Plan B” which reminded me of a certain Crypto analyst.

Peace & Love,
Adé

That is beautiful architecture! Worth a post in the Architecture Community.

Is there such a community? I had no idea. Cheers.

A part of London I haven't explored - I haven't been any further than North Road at the junction with Caledonian Road and round the corner from the tube station of the same name.

I did walk from there to Stoke Newington early one Friday afternoon late in the year. The traffic was unusually quiet before school turning out time and, with the wide roads and beautiful architecture of the houses, you could imagine yourself in a much earlier time.

Around North Road is a bit grim, whichever direction you walk, although its not to far to get to the Canal and then Granary Square behind Kings Cross.

I'm going to be in New Cross, south west London, later this year, and I will be fascinated to see how it has changed since I was last there.

Wow. There's a whole lot of London north of that! You're right though, there's a ring of grimness surrounding central London, but you have to cut through it to get to the fun parts farther out :)
