Making More Money Off of Old LEGOs, It Pays to Play!

in #hive-14201018 days ago

Before jumping in the LEGOs, I saw these charts and just had to share!

Will today be the day that BTC finally pierces the $100,000 limit? The charts look exciting, but no push through quite yet. Hive is also seeing a nice push up as well to over $0.32, so not a bad day for either one. Exciting times in crypto, I feel a new rally coming on and hopefully some big moves in the alt coins!

From Coin Gecko

Back to my original planned post of the day. Today I decided to do another LEGO post because they're a lot of fun and I have some more Items I've been getting ready to throw up on eBay. As always I like to feature some of the rarest LEGO mini-figures ever made and just how much they will set back your wallet if you can manage to find one these rarities! Today's feature is a sterling silver LEGO Star Wars Boba Fett mini-figure. Only two were ever made, both in 2010 as part of a giveaway.

Because only two were made getting a decent picture of one of these is a little difficult. I'm going with the best ones available online. This solid silver mini-figure weighs forty-two grams and is estimated to be worth around $8,000. I wasn't one of the lucky winners unfortunately, probably because I didn't enter...

A close up from the above picture, fuzzy but you can still see just how shiny he is!

And for those unfamiliar with the character Boba Fett, he is a bounty hunter that appears in "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" Star Wars films. He never had any lines but became and important and popular villain. Disney Plus made a series about him about one or two years ago as well. Wasn't a great series, but Disney isn't good at making much of anything very good anymore... Here's Boba Fett from "Return of the Jedi":

Moving onto my LEGOs now. Most of the ones I have currently were purchased at thrift stores and the occasional yard sale as well. I currently have several bins full of builds, pieces, and some mini-figures that I'm slowly working my way through to sell them on eBay. All of my recent buys have already more than paid for themselves in sales, so everything else is pure profit. LEGOs really are plastic gold with a huge collectors market out there.

If you want to try your luck with LEGOs I'll give you some upfront tips. Try to find items that have been built already and are relatively intact, and if they come with instructions it makes them more valuable. If you get the original box too that's another huge premium. I usually stick to sets or parts from big franchises, Star Wars being my favorite. I have done well on most franchise related builds, except Harry Potter. They tend to be slower sellers in my experience. Boxes full of just random bricks are worth almost nothing, unless they have set instructions avoid them like the plague.

This first set is one that took me awhile to get around to looking at it because it wasn't movie related. It's called "Raptor Chase" which was LEGO's version on "Jurassic Park" I guess. Fortunately, it had instructions and almost all of the pieces. I had to replace a couple of them but they only cost me less than a dollar. This set has already sold on eBay in this past week, and netted me $25. Not too bad since most of it was already put together, and it was all profit!

You can see it came with the hunter and his driver pursuing the raptor in the top photo. The little secondary build didn't really make much sense, but oh well. But it was a fun one to get sorted out and sold! Normally I like to use LEGO plates as background but this one was just too tall to fit. So I just made use of a box on top of my computer desk. Overall a pretty cool build!

Next up I have a small Star Wars build of a walker vehicle with a machine gun type weapon that fires those tiny blue studs when you rotate a piece on the back on the vehicle. It came with four troopers originally, but I could only find the one. I expect this one will go for around $30 if I'm lucky! It's an awesome small build though!

This next one is a Harry Potter build which aren't my favorites as I mentioned before. This one is the scene that Harry slips a sock into a book that is given to Dobby freeing him. Lucius Malfoy was missing from the set, but it came with instructions so I can't complain. I'll get it listed up for sale here soon once I get better pictures. Not sure what this will go for yet, there are several for sale at all sorts of different prices, and I'm missing one mini-figure.

Next up is a very small Star Wars build missing all of the mini-figures, but all of the parts were there and the instructions. I may get around $10 for it, not too bad.

Another Star Wars build missing it's mini-figures, but had instructions which was nice. It's a small build and might bring in $8.

And I started to dig into some more Ninjago figures which I have been putting off because I know very little about them. I have a couple blue ninjas and one of the bad guys below. I'm not sure the name of the red serpent guy yet, but I'll figure it out. It's got to be worth a few dollars at least and the ninjas about $6 each.

Last but not least a couple of the bins I'm nearly through sorting out. When you buy bins like this you often find other toys strewn in there as well as seen in the first one. There is a Harry Potter train set in there that has some issues, I'll be sharing that probably in my next LEGO post.

This next bin has had some real valuable items come out so far, but most of what's left isn't all that valuable. But there are some more sets to work with in there still, and I've already separated out the instructions and mini-figures. This thing came full of partially built sets and it has been a gold mine, one of the better ones I've ever found an only paid $40 for the whole thing!

That will wrap up this LEGO edition for the day. I try to work a few hours a week on the LEGO bins I have around to get sets put together and ready to sell. I haven't bought any more LEGOs recently, mainly because I have so much to get through still. Plus, when I've gone through the thrift stores as of late there hasn't been anything worth buying. I try to check occasionally, sometimes you can get really lucky! I hope you enjoyed seeing some more of my LEGOs from my little side hustle. It really is fun to tinker with toys and make money in the process!

Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below. Thank you for all of your support everyone, it really is greatly appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

This is really cool! My son has a bunch of lego sets that he doesn't use anymore. Maybe he should try to sell them also. Thanks for posting this.

It's not a bad idea! Some sets are worth a fortune! I wish him luck! LEGOs are a lot of fun to buy and sell, you don't make a fortune but it's a fun side hustle!

Thank you! It's surprising how valuable a lot of the sets are. I didn't even think about selling them used as sets until I saw your post. It's a great idea. Thanks for the well wishes :-)

Well BTC did go over 100K :=)

But I really missed out on LEGO's myself, here in the baltics it was very common to buy knock off brands of LEGO's as they were sooo much cheaper.

Some places that is a common problem, the knock offs are really common so finding real actual LEGO brand items is rare.

Some of the originals probably do go for bigger money. I've never really done much with them mostly because I know so little about them. I have sold some figures for over $40 a piece though from Ninjago. So there is money to be made!

YOU HAVE BEEN !PIMP SLAPPED!
Thank you for being an !LOLZ supporter.

$99,329.69 I believe that's a new all-time high for Bitcoin!🤗
I was watching the price as I was hiking today, I was sure it was going to breakthrough to $100,000!
Then the price got slammed back down........
I guess we're going to play this back-and-forth price game a little bit longer!🙄

It just breached 100k. Do we have a new resistance point?

I think one hundred may become the support, resistance I would guess will be $110K? We'll see!

I heard somewhere on Twitter/X that there was a lot of resistance about $110,000....
This kind of surprised me, I saw it running today then it backed off.....
The Mrs. told me her boss texted and said it just went over $100,000 !🤗
Here we go..... maybe Lol!😇

I was offline when it happened! Pretty exciting though!

I had to send some celebrating Gif's to my non-believing grown children Lol....😍
No response from the kids.....
I guess we all get bitcoin at the price we deserve!😇🤣

That pump happened after I went offline last night. I had a feeling it was coming though!

I watched it get close...... then back off...... I really didn't think it was going to happen yesterday!🙄
I almost expected a dip this morning to $98,000 doesn't look like that's going to happen for the moment!

Very cool! I'm not sure what BTC is going to do. I have kind of stopped trying to guess. Thanks for the tips on the Lego front!

Glad you liked it! It finally made the push after I was offline for the night, amazing to see it over one hundred thousand dollars!

I had a feeling I was going to miss the point where it actually ticked over. It would have been cool though. I am kind of a nerd about stuff like that. Especially with my odometers!

I wouldn't buy sterling silver weighing 42 grams for$8K, but then again it might be worth $50K in ten years. I'd stick with safer bets personally, but it's pretty cool that LEGO gave those away. Apparently Comic-Con San Diego is where they give out some limited items every year that tend to become expensive. I've never gone and the prospect of going doesn't excite me somehow. I must be getting old!

Goodness! 8k? That's cool, and I'm guessing this is because it's very much rare.
Is eBay the only marketplace you can utilize at the moment? You said they pretty much take a lot of money in middleman fee?

And they were given away for free as prizes. I've started to subscribe to their "club" by email now so if they give anything good out in the future I won't miss out on entering. Odds will be very long though, but if you don't enter you can't win!

eBay is a little expensive (fee wise) but they have the most shoppers there, and on LEGO items you can sell them at slightly higher prices. There are dedicated sites like bricklink or brickowl that people sell LEGOs for the best prices, but the majority of people don't know about them. Plus with eBay the shoppers get a guarantee that if the item doesn't arrive they get their money back. So I send all my items with tracking to have proof that it's been sent and delivered.

Well it seems eBay has its perks. Quality service afterall comes with great expenses and I think I understand this now. I'm wishing you the best in your sales. You said you are in profit with all the stash you currently have to sell..

Perhaps someday you'll get the super rare stuff to sell.

I love your Lego side hustle. I've been looking at thrift shops and estate sales!

Thanks! It's a lot of luck on timing. Yard or estate sales that are great if it's the right neighborhood, the ones where the kids are grown and they are trying to get rid of all the old stuff that no one wants. Every now and again you can find some really nice stuff there. I've even found silver coins being sold at some. I knew a guy who bought a silver dollar at a yard sale in Arizona, I think it was Peace dollar. But right behind there was a hidden gold coin. Luck has a lot to do with everything!

You got a whole lot of LEGO so it seems but it's nice you can sell it now with some profit hopefully. I wish I could have kept all the LEGO I once had but moving around made that impossible at some point..

It's nice to see all these older LEGO items in your posts!
