Here are some macro shots taken using a mobile phone camera. A scolia wasp was spotted perched on a dried weed.
I took the picture very carefully, holding my breath as much as I could so that the twig would not shake, which could prevent it from flying away.
What a cool scolia wasp! It has a hairy, sturdy thorax with a curved abdomen and bands. Hair covers each segment of the bands on the abdomen.
A few clicks of the photo worked well. I wondered why this little guy was so obedient. It looked so stiff on its perch. I expected this wasp to move slightly to add another angle to the shot. Instead, it fell. It remained still in stiffness after falling into the grass. Only then did I realize I was photographing a carcass wasp. What bad luck for you, kid! I picked it up and put it back where it belonged. That was its eternal place; it had returned to the bosom of the universe.
