Some years ago there was a series of fun beer adds in Poland. Basically they were showing short clips of random things with a short sentence "Almost like a [insert a similar thing but much better]". I'll leave one at the end of the post, so you can have a look. Bravo for whoever came up with this idea.

The adds were so popular that the short saying "almost like a ..." is still used and I think most know what it is about.

After the short introduction I shall show you Almost a cactus :)Po tym krótkim wstępie, przedstawiam prawie kaktusa :)

This is Centaurea sphaerocephala and those very thorny thing you see are the fruits. And yes, the thorns are as sharp as they look. They are short, stiff and can do some damage to the skin if you are not careful.

It is a nice and very resilient weed with lovely, big, purple flowers that you obviously cannot see here. When the blooms are open there are always insects around: bees, beetles, butterflies, flies and... spiders since there is so much food around.

Here is the adds with a translation for non polish speakers.

"Almost like a paradise
Almost like a human
Almost like an e-mail
Almost like a brain
Almost like an eagle
Almost like rock
Almost like Żywiec

Almost makes a big difference"

beautiful in photo shoots, yes like friends said the flower is very similar to a cactus flower.when I noticed the beauty of the flower for the first time I really thought it was a cactus flower. so after I read it apparently the flower is a flower that is very similar to a cartoon flower.Thank you my friend.

Thanks :)

You're welcome

Almost stings like cactus too? looks good though, the photos!:) reminds me of a plan I saw recently round big blue flowers (spiky looking but they arent) so when the bees would buzz around them it looked like mini planets for insects...

Yea they are pretty sharp! I had to check it myself. Wouldn't wanna trip near one of them :p

...at least we know now:))

Beautiful pictures ! Those flowers are among my favorites, I like the way they look all spiky and dangerous, hiding the purple flowers to protect pollinators insects :) ... that and the fact that they share the same family with artichoke !

Almost like an artichoke ^^

Nice you did this post in dual language, Polish seems beautiful to listen, even if I don’t really have a lot of occasion to hear some..!

There is so many types of the thirny ones around and they are all very pretty.

Almost like an artichoke ^^

Haha yea :D
There are some that have huge white flowers. So amazing looking!

I hardly write in Polish. Somehow it's faster for me to type in English (even though I know I make mistakes). My fingers don't want to cooperate in Polish :D

Oh, I never seen some ! I will make a quick search ^^

Yeah, I can imagine it could be hard sometimes, I mostly write in French, but English is a good exercise to develop my vocabulary and and the way I construct my sentences, haha

I wish you to have a pleasant day :)

Search result :P

Nice ! I will try to find one in the following days :)

Just rediscover this one while browsing my pictures, directly and obviously thought to you :
