I got some good light today so I took some cacti in (and the new guy I just bought, but shhhh, I will show it later) to take some photos. I don't remember if I did show this one. Definitely not with flowers, as it didn't bloom for me yet. But it is a cool and very photogenic cactus and while there is no flowers we will enjoy all the shapes and textures in black and white.
Echinofossulocactus
Fun name, isn't it? It is also called Stenocactus, which is easier to remember. I don't know which type exactly it is. I grew it from seed and I didn't even know there was like that in the seed mix I got. It is 6 years old now and few weeks ago got a bigger pot. I am really counting on flowers next year.
I have another, younger one, but it doesn't show those cool ribs yet. As babies they look like mammillarias.
The ribs are pretty amazing though! They start to show as the cactus matures. In younger plant they have just nipples and nothing shows that they will turn to ribs like that. So for the first 2 years I had no clue what cactus it is :)
The thorns on it are big, very thick and very sharp! Mean mean mean! They remind me of the big ram horns.
Lovely plant, what can I say :)
