The cage.

Physalis lace pl bw 5.jpg

I have not posted any dry, decomposing plants in a while. But autumn and winter are the best times to go and look for some. I did not have to look far, as these lovely lacey constructions were in my mums garden.

I am not even sure how to call it. It is not a fruit because the fruit is inside (it is a small and very much edible, orange berry). It is also not a flower because flowers are small and pale yellow.

Physalis

It is like a cage that holds the berry inside. When the fruit matures, it is bright orange, and the plant is used as a cut flower. It can also be dried like roses, and it will keep its colour.

And then later, if left in the garden, the very thin orange tissue will disappear, leaving just the veins that hold it together in shape.
It is pretty amazing to look at, and I cannot resist shooting it every time I see it.

There are few other plants that do it that I know of, for example, Hydrangea (yep, I shot it as well).

I actually picked a few of them up and put them in a more sunny spot to get better shots. Most of the stems were lying on the ground under the bushes. They will be left there for the whole winter. By spring, some of them will turn into compost, and the seeds will hopefully become new plants.

I also call it “Caged Love” which is surprising is that I also wanted to do an article on this variety of plant. We are in two different and very distant countries and yet we often find the same plants. How incredible it is how nature is able to move while remaining still. The magic of nature!!!!

Ohhh you exposed the fruit.. how pretty :D

The photo I took on a smartphone is for this reason that the quality of the image is average but for those who didn't know it will have the color version lol

Those are super cool! One of those things that most people see and walk on without noticing the beauty there. It's awesome how all of those tiny intricate connections form a network like that.

Oh hello there! Didn't see you a while :)

And I like to shoot all the tiny little things.

🪄🎩 Magical 😍

Thanks :)

That was nice picture... i never see that plant before, apparently plants like this can be a beautifull image if we captured it from the right angle.

All things around us can create beautiful image if shot the right way :)
Thank you!

That's right...👍

I've always loved the look of the Chinese Lanterns. They are beautifully orange when the outside is still solid and then after, the lacy covers with the orange berry inside. So beautiful in all the ways they change.

They are beautiful! Even in summer when you don't see the cages yet and they just this green bush. Do you grow it?

I never have. A few years back I thought I was going to try too, but then I never did.

Wow... Very beautiful dried plant photo, I really like this plant, your macro shooting results are very good.

Thank you :)

some beautiful shots, it looks like a tinder made from a dried plant. What's interesting is that it looks like a fruit shape

Thank you! The fruit is inside though... you can probably barely see it.

Great photos. 🤗 I really liked the cage description. It seems like an exciting process to wait and see how it changes in spring and anticipate its seeds turning into new plants. 🌸

Before they change to the lace they are so bright orange. Also very stunning!

Just wow... Great shots 👍

Thanks a lot :)

I love the details of all the branches of this plant, they are certainly magnificent images.

Thank you :)

It's beautiful picture

Thanks :)

That look like a fragile yet stunning cage. the nature artwork. : )

It is surprisingly tough though shough looks so delicate.

Seeing decomposing plant is awesome

How are you dear friend @ewkaw good afternoon
I don't blame you for not knowing what to call it, I would also have the same dilemma. What a beautiful structure, its shape and texture is ideal for monochrome shots. Excellent shots.
Have a splendid day

I am sure there is a proper name for it. But I like to make up names so will leave it as it is for now :)
Thank you and have a great weekend :)

They're like specially designed lace. Perfect and eye-catching. A great visual show.🌸🌸

They are.. they are so thin, but surprisingly strong and hard to tea. Amazing stuff :)

Mono really works for the delicate lacey threads. That Sigma really brought them in nicely!

It does.. I had a dilemma though if I should remove the colours. Some still had the lovely orange.
Sigma is great :)

Physalis 🤩🤩🤩 I completely forgot about those babies! I used to grow them in my garden. They’re considered a super food 😁

I always thought this was a flower. Did I miss the flowers? 🤷🏻‍♀️🙈😂

If not flower then maybe fruit shell or jacket or, yeah, why not a cage? They’re quite picturesque at this stage!

Superfood and super expensive in a shop for a tiny box :p
I had no idea this little ball inside is actually edible. I thought they are poisonous because of their colour and we only used them as decoration.

The flower is is small and easy to miss :D This love thing is the fruit.

I’m not sure if all of them are edible. I remember ordering seeds for the edible version and yeah, I ate them all and I’m alive 😃

Is that cherry bladder. This fruit has a delicious taste and can improve digestion, it looks like a very beautiful cage or lantern.

Yes it is. I didn't know it has that name too :)
