Monomad: Calgary Central Library

The Calgary Public Library is an architectural marvel that has an interior unlike any I have seen in this city. It reminds me of many of the libraries I have seen in other older cities that have some sense of style to them. It is a very welcome edition. I spent quite a bit of time in the older one that this replaced, and while I liked its fairly straight forward layout, which made it easy to find books now, I think since I don't come here as often, its really the new spiral-like design of the levels that really draws me in.

There are a lot of stairs to climb in this oval-like layout; wood panels and light colors make this an almost calming and enlightened type of space. There are elevators to make it easy, but I wanted to see the view from each level, so I climbed and wound around to see everything from different angles. Even the light coming through the windows at the type had a unique artsy look, and it has me even more excited for some of the other new and renovated old buildings that should be completed here in the next few years, like the Glenbow Museum.
