Black and White photography has a certain charm that hooks us all thanks to its ability to transmit the essence of an image in its purest state. There is no difference between a professional photographer or a beginner in photography, the charm of the contrast and simplicity of black and white photographs attracts us by its expressive force.
Although its main characteristic is that it is the initial expression of the first photographs, it awakens nostalgia for the past. It is a magical combination of light and shadow in which we can perceive all the colors in the white and the absence of them in the black. It is here where the shades of gray generate an explosive combination when contemplating the image in Black and White.
I am amazed to know that with the passage of time black and white photography continues to captivate new generations of photographers even in a modern world dominated by compact devices that generate extraordinary Full Color HD images with a single click. It seems that this poetic charm that can only be achieved in a black and white image still maintains its strength, capturing the inspiration of generations to come.
Although mastering the art of black and white photography requires great sensitivity in every photographer, as well as skill in composition, understanding of light and the balance between shapes, lines and textures. It is the practice itself that forms these great visual artists who do wonders with the simplicity of Black and White honoring the beginning of this captivating art of photography.
Today I bring back some portraits of my friend Dahomis in a simple session in which we used a black backdrop for the background and some Strobes lights to give volume and shapes to her silhouette. Although she looks spectacularly "modern" the simplicity of these portraits keeps the nostalgic concept of the beginnings of photography and its adaptation to our days.
This is my submission to the #monomad constest February 7th.
