Here's my entry for the #monomad challenge.
Bali is an island in Indonesia and one of the favorite tourist destinations. It is famous for its beautiful beaches where you can swim, surf, soak yourself in warm salty water, and enjoy the sunset on the horizon. One of the things I love to do while in Bali is to catch the sunset at Kuta beach. The weather got a little cooler in the late afternoon, and the beach is no longer crowded.
Bali also has its challenges in keeping its beaches clean of trash. Every year the local government has to mobilize hundreds of people working together with volunteers and locals to clean up the beaches of trash. The trash that litters the beaches is dominated by plastic waste, ranging from plastic cups for mineral drinks and plastic packaging. It is suspected that the trash was carried away by the current and the West wind. There are occasions the washed away amount of trash could reach up to 60 tons in just one day.
It's sad to witness an otherwise pristine, and beautiful beach littered with washed-away trash.
We walked along the beach for about another 1 km and found a nice, clean spot with beach umbrellas and a beer vendor with a cooler box on the beach. The beers they are selling are cheap and cold, the perfect beverage on a hot late afternoon.
The beer vendor guys and just across the street, there's a burger kiosk.
The normal crowds have dispersed, and the beach here looks clean and quiet. You see a group of teenagers enjoying the late afternoon breeze playing beach soccer.
Happy teenagers playing beach soccer on the warm sand.
Cold beers and a cool breeze by the beach catching the beautiful sunset.
