Hail to the Hive!
I’m starting to get a little excited about our upcoming adventures back on the UK River & Canal Network. We took a little wander down the canal away from the marina as the rain had stopped and it was a fresh spring afternoon. We walked for about 20 minutes or so and came upon the Caen hill lock flight.
Now we have tackled the odd flight of locks during our travels on our old boat ‘Badger’ and some were quite a challenge but we both agreed that we were glad we didn’t have to tackle this on our way out later this month. It’s a flight of 29 locks with more not far away. Ouch. I think @millycf1976 would be a bit sore after winding the windlass and opening and closing all those. Not for the faint hearted!
But luckily for us we are headed in the opposite direction as we chug our way back to the Midlands at the end of May. There will still be a whole heap of locks but nothing like this and they will be spread out a bit.
But as we wandered down the flight we stopped to chat to other boaters and bumped into someone we knew that used to be on the marina we are current on. It really was a pleasant day out that reminded us of exactly how friendly the canal world really is and why we are glad to be back amongst these friendly folks.
It also reminded me of how many wonderful photography opportunities await me along the network.
It’s good to be back on the waterways.
