Welcome to another publication for the #Monomad Challenge!

Of a careful whiteness, of those who try to whitewash their walls every year, such is the will of the people of the Alentejo. Used to high temperatures and afternoons spent sheltered from the hot sun, they are often associated with the daily habit of siesta.

It may seem that these people don't "like" to work, or that they seek leisure, but those who pass through know very well that from lunchtime until four in the afternoon, the scorching sun mercilessly overwhelms any desire or urgency to finish any work that has to be done outside...

The people, accustomed to the bitterness of life in the countryside, are extremely wise and carry on their customs, dancing and respecting the natural elements.

After siesta time, in the streets of this Alentejo land, we are welcomed by open gates, with a willingness to receive and welcome, but avoiding unnecessary movement at all costs.

The simplicity and whiteness of the houses is one of the region's most striking characteristics.

If you ever come to my Portugal, and if you let yourself get carried away, discover the beauty of the interior of our country. It may not be as well known as Lisbon or Porto, but believe me, you won't regret it, and you'll be rewarded with quality tourism and unparalleled gastronomic quality.

De uma brancura cuidada, de quem procura caiar as suas paredes todos os anos, assim é a vontade do povo do Alentejo. Habituados às elevadas temperaturas, e às tardes passadas abrigados do sol quente, são frequentemente associados ao hábito diário da sesta.

Poderá parecer que estas populações não "gostam" de trabalhar, ou que procuram o ócio, mas sabe muito bem quem por lá passa, que a partir da hora de almoço, e até às quatro da tarde, o abrasador sol, sem dó nem piedade, verga qualquer vontade ou urgência em terminar algum trabalho que tenha que ser feito no exterior...

Donos de uma sabedoria enorme, o povo, habituado às amarguras da vida do campo, leva assim os seus costumes, dançando e respeitando os elementos naturais.

Passando à hora da sesta, nas ruas desta terra alentejana, somos acolhidos pelas portadas abertas, dispondo a boa vontade de receber e de bem acolher, mas evitando a todo o custo movimentações desnecessárias.

A simplicidade, e a brancura das casas, é uma das mais marcantes características da região.

Se um dia vierem até ao meu Portugal, e se se deixarem entusiasmar, descubram a beleza do interior do nosso país. Pode não ser tão conhecido como Lisboa ou Porto, mas acreditem em mim, que não se arrependerão, e que serão compensados em turismo de qualidade e numa qualidade gastronómica sem igual.
